Sounds like Frito pie to me.
A California walking taco? Strange.
i usually don’t offer these until home grown tomato’s come in . Bag of chips, opened sideways, a spoon of chili, a spoon of onions, a spoon of cheese sauce is the basic. Add Jalapenos, tomato’s and maybe a squirt of lime-infused sour cream.
And maybe some Salsa . Fancy would be Avocado and maybe Black Olives. Cilantro, maybe.
Now THOSE are some good looking tacos.
I did California Burritos last week, (Grilled skirt steak, french fries, cheese, avocado salsa in a 14″ flour tortilla) Some people know what it is, others I have to talk them into trying, and they can’t believe what a good combination it is.
Now I want Tacos!….
I’m thinking it will work ok, thanks guys.
hella good tacos
I am from california and if i ordered a taco and someone handed me a bag of fritos i’d be offended…
cheese, sour cream, olives, thats some dude in indiana’s version of a taco… [V]
I don’t know——-I’ve never seen a Taco Walk!!!!![:I][:I][lol][lol][lol]
Describe both products. Using Pan Savers will fix the messiness. If your chili is real hot it will melt the cheese.
I’m dropping nachos from my menu due to poor sales last year and a messy pan to clean up. Will shredded cheese work on a walking taco?
A “Walkin’ taco” is not a taco. It’s a name someone came up with to describe what many know as “Frito Pie”. A bag of chips cut open longways and loaded with chili, cheese and onions and maybe jalapenos. You can kick it up with tomatoes, avocado, sour cream or whatever. I thin the sour cream with lime juice to make it flow from a squeeze bottle.
FWIW, I spent my first 50 years in CA and had a Mexican step-father. Any Mexican food I eat I will put SC, Avo, and Fresh Tomatoes on. And black olives.
No sprouts or cilantro.
There popular in Texas. Just sold about 400 at the Texas motor speedway.
I thought they put sprouts in everything
Walking taco is popular around here with the teens. Split open a Frito bag and goop up as desired.
hella good tacos
First: i want to apologize if i came off snobby Randy, if you handed me this item as “Nachos” or “frito Pie” i’d be digging it.
But as a CA native who grew up eating real tacos, it bothers me when some one puts ranch dressing on something or sour cream and olives and deems it “CA style” or “West coast.”
To me i liken it to handing me a dog with ketchup and saying its KC bbq.
Second: the picture i put is just a googled image of tacos- this is a picture from an event i did christmas time 2011:
the chili on the side is a recipe i use for super bowl parties and tried selling by the bowl in the winter time, got good reviews, but didn’t sell much of it.
I’ve done that.I like using the bag because if you serve a chili cheese dog, you just sub the bag for the dog and bun.
