hi, I just had a burger at the Sawmill a few weeks ago…….it was better than ever! Real good charbroiled taste, firm, but juicy….and "well tended to " (cooked a perfect "medium")
It was a huge burger , too , and it came with fries , all for $5.00!!
(my sis had the burger at "Jumbo’s" on the boardwalk, but admitted Sawmill is bigger, tastier, and cheaper…)
I’ve been meaning to try the Italian restaurant with the catchy name "On Top of Spaghetti"……it is right on the Blvd. (not the boardwalk). Anybody been? I want to try the chicken francaise there.
Unfortunately, they are only open for dinner, and I am usually stuffed from boardwalk burgers, pizza, and zeppoli’s by then!

Oh Jersey Girl, forgot to mention Pork ROll is scarce here in NE PA also. I did learn that some diners (luncheonettes) do have it but you have to ask it’s not on the menu ( brilliant marketing strategy) and Never call it Taylor Ham they dont have a clue
FYI, Top of the Mast is getting torn down for condos (what else?) this year, shame I remember when it rivaled (even surpassed the Lobster Shanty as the premier Barnaget Peninsula Restuarant. We ate there about 4 years ago the view still could bring you to your kness bit the food has become ordinary. All the other ones down at Island Beach SP are still good tho….
Marucas –without a doubt..
Sawmill too– burgers there rock– at least they used to when i was going there (a million years ago…:)
taylor ham– yummm can’t get that out here in indiana either… miss that..
Yes the Sawmill is great, When I was young it wasnt a bar yet. It was a Taylor Ham restauarant It even had cafe curtain made out of Taylor Ham burlap. THen it became a bar in my late teens (drinking age 18 then) had many good times there
The Saw Mill gets my vote for best burger. A nice size burger with pork roll and cheese called the lumberjack. I feel my arteries harden everytime I eat one. Pizza is good there too.
Ahh… Maruca’s original tomatoe pies…My kids go nuts for the 3 brothers giant pizzas…
Maruca’s for the best pizza.
I’d like to start a chat re: restaurants in the Seaside Park/Seaside Heights Area. I’ll start with the Luna Rosa a great Southern Italian style restaurant on the BLVD in Seaside Heights,, reasonable prices, typical great NJ Italian food and a lovely old world type outside garden to eat in. They do keep the inside a little dark for my taste but you wont be disapointed!
