On trips my sandwiches tend to get soggy if left in cling-film. I guess it depends on what you have on them too. The solution we’ve finally resorted to is to make sandwich trays (like cold cut trays etc)and keep them in the cooler … then make them as we want them.
We found years ago food dried out in wax paper…It may be good for other things…but today there are far better choices than wax paper!!!
wax paper helps the sandwich breath and avoids it getting soggy like cling-film does.
Like rptyper stated, I kind of forgot about sandwiches in wax paper. Brings back good memories, but i’d probably never do it for my kids. My wife has an industrial box full of sandwich bags on the microwave for when she or I pack the kids lunches for school. The convience of those little zip lock bags outweigh the memories.
I forgot about wax paper and I’m going to the store to get some. It was great. I wrap in foil now but not for much longer!
Thinking back and always remembering the heavy smell of my delicious room temperature, egg salad sandwiches. The bread was a little soggy but my mother always had enough mayo in the salad. It never spoiled and usually required a good licking clean of every inch of wax paper.Its seems the sloppier the sandwich, added to the fun of getting every drop and every piece.
After lunch, I would fold up the waxed paper and save it in my pocket. At the playground on the route home, I’d whip it out and polish the metal sliding board with it. That always increased the sliding speed.

I agree wax is still the best. My mom built her sandwiches that were works of art and always highly desirable as a "trade for…"
My fav. sandwich to take to school for lunch was a fried egg sandwich wrapped in wax paper. Still today, I do the same. I had one last week and it was so good. I still wrap my sandwichs in wax paper.
They sat in lockers, under desks and on shelves in the back of the class half a day. And I can’t remember anyone getting sick from bad mayo or anything else.

When my mother made sandwiches and wrapped them in wax paper, we’d toss the sandwiches and eat the wax paper.
My grandma used to do the same thing…
All sandwiches, of which my mother fixed about 3 kinds, were wrapped in wax paper and put in a brown paper bag which then marinated in my locker at school [Catholic], for 3 or so hours…damn that made them taste better! Just the noise of coming out of the bag and the unwrapping wax paper, increased the flavor x10, at least that’s the way I remember it!
