4 months to go before the fabulous HeatherB and I are wed in April in Kennebunkport, and then off to the Outer Banks for a travelling, outdoorsey honeymoon packed with Roadfood sites.
My resolutions: (as I am sure HeatherB will check in on her own)
    1. To write more reviews-I have many photos I have taken, and have not yet shared with everyone.
    2. To continue to work with Microsoft Streets and Trips to input customized databases…and then share them with my fellow Roadfooders. Wouldn’t it be great to have a repository of customized databases on food topics submitted by Roadfooders for others to access…for example New EnglandBBQ, or Clam Shacks, or North CarolinaBBQ, to insure that the maps you create for your trip contained all the Roadfood sites, not just the ones selected by Microsoft.
    3. To contribute more to this site than I have been able to in the past.
    4. Meet any of the wonderful folks who contribute.
    5. To continue to faithfully communicate, and more importantly celebrate, the regional differences between foods of the same name and concept. I want to be able to experience the differences between the deep fried hot dog in a Coney Island bun in NJ and compare it to the "steemie" Steamed Hot Dog on a steamed squared New England roll at Joe and Nemo’s in Boston, or Flos’ in Cape Neddick, ME.
    6. To remember to pardon myself after belching. Roadfood ediquette is very important.
    7. To boldly go where no Roadfooder has gone before…..sorry, this cliche has already been used.
God, that was serious…I am going home for a beer.
Heather and I made peach and raspberry tarts for the XMAS celebration.
I hear I am getting lasagna as well.
God bless everyone this holiday season.
    DaveM
P.S. My XMAS dinner is at the Clay Hill Farm, also the site for our reception. Check it out: http://www.clayhillfarm.com

I resolve to make it to Philadelpha to eat my very first ‘real’ cheesesteak. Based on reviews, leaning towards Dalessandros and Johns Roast Pork.

I resolve to post at least 1 review for a great RF type place in the Greater Cincinnati area, probably Sugar-n-Spice on Reading Road.

I resolve to convince all RF’ers that the buckaroo cheesburger at Roy Roger’s deserves consideration as one of the best cheeseburgers available from a chain (albeit a dying one).

I resolve to have one really, really good steak, leaning towards Morton’s of Chicago (they have a location in downtown Cincinnati)

I have a real simple resolution regarding food.
I will continue to eat whatever I desire…but cut the quantity by about 40%. That seems to be the best I can do to begin to control my weight and still live as I (pretty much) want to.
Regarding the socialization with the Roadfooders, I have yet to have a less than totally positive experience doing that. So we will attempt to expand on our contacts and enlarge the circle of friends that we are joining here online.
    Kindest regards to All.

I-95, my record dealer friend Ted lives in Waldorf, Maryland. It is entirely possible that, come Springtime, I’ll go up and visit him to pick up his reservoir of junk 45 records. OF COURSE I’ve gotta eat, and I wanna try some local specialties in that area. Waldorf is amazingly close to Richmond, Baltimore, D. C., and Fluffia. (Ted tells me that it’s nothing for him to go to Fluffia to buy a vanful of records and be back that evening in time for dinner.)
I know the way to his house by heart: been there once, won’t ever forget how to get there. How close are you to Salad City, as I call it?
Thinking Cheesesteaks, Crabs, Stuffed Ham, and YOUR Good Local Beer, Ort. Carlton in Bereft-Of-Those-But-We-Got-Livermush-If’n-Ya-Look-Fer-It Athens, Georgia.

Ort., name the day and I’ll meet you there. Although residents of the Old Line state commonly refer to that particular area as "the arm pit of Maryland" (seriously), there are numerous good BBQ and crab houses well worth the visit. Drop me a line if you’ll be in that neck of the woods and we’ll go on a gastronomical tour (yes, of Maryland’s arm pit…I just wasn’t going to end it there.)

See you, Ort. (a.k.a. Alan Freed).[:D]

In 2004, I am determined to start toting along my camera so I will be able to take photos of Roadfood places I visit and great foods before I gobble them.

I would also like to put a plan into action, if the consensus is that it s a good idea and the Roadfood Big Guys bless it. It s for an annual Roadfood Forum Swap. Here s the basic idea, although I have all the details worked out in my mind too.

    1) An announcement is made about the Swap and a deadline to sign up by e-mailing the coordinator with your e-mail address and state. We would also need input on a ballpark $ amount of a swap box.
    2) When the deadline expires, you would be matched by one of the coordinators to a partner in a different part of the country and would be sent their e-mail address, if it is not available through the forum. The two of you would exchange mailing addresses.
    3) Then you would start to collect local non-perishable food specialties to send to you partner and there would be a deadline to mail it to them.
    4) We would have a thread to report what you received, if you wanted to.

I have participated in these at other forums and the first time I did, my partner was from Canada. I got a tin of custard powder, which I had never seen before, along with recipes for making Nanimo bars, a local church cookbook, some great candy bars not available here, etc. In exchange, she received Good s potato chips (you know, the ones who think lard is a food group), a jar of Tallarico sausage and pepper sandwich sauce and dough squares and a recipe for making PA Dutch chicken pot pie, etc.

I think it fits in with the idea of appreciating foods from local companies and expanding our horizons and I think it might even encourage trips to explore Roadfood in your s partner s area. What do you think? Too weird? Questions?

Funny, that was my resolution last year. But then my wife caught me, and I had lots of explaining to do….

I have three 2004 Roodfood resolutions: 1) Meet a fellow Roodfooder, 2)Try a fish n’ chips place in my own freaking city — A Salt and Batter-y — that I haven’t gotten to yet, and 3)Have a roadfood day or weekend, which I haven’t done in quite a while. I’m picturing New Haven.

The real question, PhilJ, is whether you could wear white. I dare not ask the Pandoras-listening, knife-wielding EliseT such an inquiry. However I would guess that her gown is either leather at best and "pleather" at worst.

ET in leather. Now that’s a pretty picture.

I’m not sure my heart can stand the strain.

I’m not sure the zipper could stand the strain!

As for the cake, we wanted a bananas foster cake, but we found a place with an amazing poured fondant that tastes like almond fudge. 1 layer white, one layer chocolate, and one layer white with lemon filling. Yum! That is if we have any room left after Mike Anderson’s fried gator, jambalaya and red beans and rice!

You won’t have to hold your breath long for that one. Stephen has a brand-new Roadfood.com ready to roll out, including some fabulous mapping software with all Roadfood entries on it.

Myself, I resolve to figure out why my ethernet card isn’t working on this notebook computer, leaving me stuck here in Cajun country at 19.2kb! [:(] Boo hoo!

    Great !! [:)][:)][:)]

    BTW, EliseT:

Not that you receive such a rag living way out there on the left coast but the current issue of Down East Magazine (www.downeast.com) is dedicated to identifying "real Mainers" and features a photo of a multi-tiered, whoopie pie wedding cake. (For those of you not living in a U.S. state actually convinced that Moxie is potable), whoopie pies are a New England, homemade treat similar to a round-sized Devil Dog (see Drakes thread elesewhere on this site).

Just another option for your upcoming nuptials! [;)]

I plan to always give the gift of food. And, to get out of Florida for a vacation to explore!

You know, this thread inspires me to commission an interactive map on this site which would portray all 50 U.S. states. Like business web sites which provide a similar means to "find our location / franchise closest to you," Road Fooders could use such a tool in planning their next trip.

For instance, if I was travelling to Pennsylvania, I could click on PA on the electronic map and either locate and or communicate with Road Fooders specifically in the Keystone State. The same in Michigan. Either resulting in my putting out an invite letting either cheesewit or clothier know I’ll be in their neck-of-the-woods and did they want to meet at a specific establishment for some grub. Hopefully, this would also yield some local recommendations from, yup, locals.

Either way, it would get some of us together upon our future travels. However, we’d all have to agree to post a digital photo of such gastronomical unions on this site (I loved cheesewit and JaneDough’s recent photo!).

Me? I’ll follow the lead of the others preceding me on this thread to invite all Road Fooders that if you’re ever in the tri-state area of Northern Virginia / Washington, D.C. / southern Maryland and want to grab some bbq, half-smokes or crabs, I’m your guy. Just drop an e-mail.

I want to encourage all of those who are quitting smoking or who have quit.Keep it up! I quit 3 years ago last Aug. and I’ve never looked back. Accupuncture worked the trick for me.
Any Roadfooders who find themselves down in the Keys this winter-give me a holler.

    Again, more lutefisk-bashing… [:(][:(][:(]
