When one of my Czech cousins came over in 2005 for my Mom’s funeral, we shopped with him for ‘tourist gifts’ to take home to his family after the visit.  Mini-electronics for the two kids..some nice clothing (outdoor stuff) for his wife, and a large bottle of J D for his Brother.
Some things are indeed recognized World Wide.

    Marlene,
If you ever look at that shelf and see a bottle of [style=”color: #ff0000;”]BIG RED[/style]  or [style=”color: #800000;”]MOXIE[/style],  WITH  [style=”color: #ff00ff;”]“MAYOR AL”[/style] scrawled in Blaze Magenta Sharpie Marker on it , You’ll know I am in town !!!  [:o)]

I was in a sushi bar in Los Angeles, sitting at the bar wondering why there were several shelves behind the bar completely filled up with rows of only Chivas Regal. Then I noticed that each bottle had a label with a Japanese name written on it.  I finally asked what it was about and found out that they didn’t have a liquor license.  Each of their regular Japanese patrons had their own bottle of Chivas Regas waiting for their return.  You could bring your own bottle and drink, but you couldn’t order a drink at the sushi bar.

To Japanese businessmen, drinking high priced booze is a status symbol. Next thing ya know Rednecks will be guzzling Sake in BBQ Joints! Reminds them of White Lightening![:p] Go figure![:D]

Usually, they’re nothing great. A lot of fast food at one point, but the Jack Daniel’s ad is great, “don’t just spike the punch…spike the cookies.” [lol]

I enjoyed it myself.  I have visited the distillery many times and it is very folksy but a great tour.

I do not drink JD but all my friends do.  Our company hosted a group of Japanese pharma group of about 30.  We took them to a very nice local restaurant “Regas” where they imbibed a huge amount of JD.  One of the Japanese drunk so much, he fell out of the chair while eating a very expensive meal.  We carefully and quitely escorted him to the bus.

They all had JD.  Apparently it is very expense in Tokoyo??

Japanese businessmen are the originators of the phrase, “Work Hard, Play Harder”![:D]
