There’s a whole Road Trip thread on Mexico Beach/Panama City alone. Go check it out. It strikes me that you’ll find some ideas there.
You might do better in driving down to take I-24 to Nashville and head south on I-65 (I think it is) through Huntsville to Birmingham, thence to Montgomery, then angle across… maybe even through Dothan. Just slow down for Brundidge, Alabama if you go thataway!
Unspeedily (I’ve Only Received 2 Tickets in 41+ years!), Ort. Carlton in Oft-Jet-Propelled Athens, Georgia.
Donut Hole is good but Staffs is not that good… I would try a place seafood place in Destin, Staffs is way over rated if you ask me.
Breakfast in Destin – Donut Hole. Seafood (many places) but try Staff’s in FWB – the oldest seafood restaurant in Florida.
There are two Goldies listed…We ate at the sit-down place also, but the one that seems to draw the "Rave Reviews" is the Express location. Maybe one of our Vicksburg readers will clarify the descriptions. I did enjoy my Catfish and BBQ combination plate that day !!
Al- The last time I stopped at Goldie’s in Vicksburg (April ’06) it was a sit-down as well as a take-out place.Have they gone to take-out only? They do serve some fine BBQ and ,of course, are very handy to both I-20 and Rte.61.
Depends on the route you will take. Off hand, I would guess it would be I-55 South to I-10 and then East on I-10 to Desitin?? Other options are available also, depending on your available travel time???
Using my first guess-
Throwed Rolls at Lamberts Cafe in Sykesville,MO
Any of a multitude of BBQ places in Memphis,TN,
Tunica,MS (Blue & White)(Fried Chicken),
Goldies Express BBQ on the bluff in Vicksburg,MS,Takeout only
Brick Pit BBQ and Wintzells Oyster House in Mobile, AL.
That’s just a start. Use the search on this site…The Gulf Coast has a bunch of places for fresh seafood.[?]
where to go on a trip from St. Louis to Destin?
