I moved this post from out of an old BBQ forum post. This isn’t about BBQ but it is a great post on a couple places in Richmond. Regards to the OP but I feel it belongs here.

just wanted to report on my recent trip to richmond va and thanks to this thread the 2 GREAT meals i had down there.
MCLEAN’S Restaurant- DELICIOUS- boasts of being richmond’s biggest breakfast, it was real southern breakfast with all the sides- grits, meats, apples, biscuits, delicious eggs cooked perfectly, great fried catfish, all in a real neighborhood place with serious vibe. packed but fast, courteous, and downright delicious- a real roadfood spot.
LEE’S Fried Chicken- WOW!!! so good- i know it’s a small chain, and apparently Lee started kfc with the colonel, but wow, lee really knows his bird- everything was SO delicious- the chicken (original recipe) had the snark of the KFC but was perfectly cooked- so juicy, so flavorful, really quite light and delicious. and the sides were just great- delicious mashed potatoes w/ very peppery gravy, great beans with tons of salt pork in them, very good biscuits- light and fluffy-, everything was great. we ate there with about 8 people and destroyed buckets of chicken and sides and all felt fine after eating all that fried food- try that at KFC! and the lady’s behind the counter were hilarious and playing with a freaky looking yankee from new yawk like me- a great experience- don’t be put off by the fast food look of this place, it was delicious!!! i could have sat there all afternoon eating that chicken…
didn’t get to buzz and ned’s- opted for the fried chicken instead (i’ve bowed at the alter of the georgia pig, it’s a tough climb from there…), but next time… enjoy- frankbooth
