A gift is an item or personal property simply bestowed voluntarily and without compensation.

And you can certainly ask someone if they will accept a particular gift before you give it to them.

    This is really quite simple.

You are perfectly correct………….this is a perfect example of a gift and not regifting! Thank you.[;)]

Exactly. And if someone gave you the said 1000.00 and you gave away a portion or all of it, that would be regifting.

Saps………….if I hand someone and ask if they want it…….it is not a damn gift. If I buy something for someone and carefully wrap it and give it to them for a special occasion, it is indeed a gift. [|)]

Wrong! It is called regifting if one wraps a gift that they have received and gives it to someone as a gift.

When one receives something that they do not need or want and asks family members "Would any of you like this", it is just passing something on …………….there IS a difference!

Wrong! A gift is simply something that is given voluntarily and without compensation. So by giving a gift that you have received to another party, you are regifting it. It doesn’t have to be wrapped or given on a particular occasion to be a gift.

    This may help:

    regifting noun /rigft/
the activity of giving something as a gift that you yourself originally received as a gift

    from: http://www.macmillandictionary.com/New-Words/041220-regifting.htm

    Pretty simple stuff.

I do not regift but if I receive something that I do not have a use for, I will offer it to someone in my family and always have a "taker". "One man’s trash is another man’s treasure"

LOL. Maybe that’s where the person that gave it to you bought it. [:0] [;)] [:o)]
