Indeed it does, Al!
The guy you see in the picture (but not in the group pic) was a "guest" judge from the Pulte sponsor, and was only there to judge the brisket. This was not an official KCBS-sanctioned event so this was allowed.
The Dewalt smoker is actually owned by Michael Reimann, who promotes BBQ in AZ through his website AZBarbecue.com . This event was organized largely by him, Michael is great about getting things like this sponsored and puts a lot of time and effort into making them a success.
we’ve got another one coming up the end of February, looking forward to that one as well!
DD, I can’t even begin to tell you how envious I am of this job of yours! That’s so cool, and I’m sure you can tell from my recent spate of reviews how much I miss really great BBQ…which reminds me to put my logbook of Joe’s with you up on the site. Be sure to check back, and let’s go Giants! [8D] Chris
Looks like a great time. But I do feel sorry for the guy in the orange cap in the group photo. Is he sad that the tasteing is done and must wait for another year?
Comeon folks lets come up with a good caption for that guy.
Chow Jim
I like the look of the Dewalt smoker, nice small size, I could…..
hmmmmmmmm (can’t you hear the gears turning and the smoke billowing out my ears)
My wife would kill me!

Great pics of a great event!
Did the guy with the white dress shirt & jacket, holding a pen, take the group shot picture? I notice he wasn’t in the group picture.
That food looks superb! What fun that must have been. [8D]
Geez, some guys will go to any length for a free meal, some Knob Creek, and a cigar. [;)] Looks like great weather and a good time by all.
Last weekend I was involved in another BBQ contest as a judge.
The event was sponsored by Pulte Homes and produced a turnout of about 4000 people and a couple giant bees.
The BBQ contest involved 10 teams following KCBS rules.
We were sequestered in the judges "tent," testing and grading 4 delicious entries:
Chicken, Ribs, Pulled Pork and Brisket.
Turned out to be a great day and the Q was top-notch. Afterwards we spent some time hanging out with the teams and did a different type of tasting…
