True, MiamiDon,
But most of those jokes were unfair…I think. We all hear atmosphere is a big part of the eating experience, and can even influence our feelings for the food. Most English pubs oooze atmosphere..and a meal there(yes full meals, not a bar sandwich) are excellent,in a nice classy atmosphere…so different from an American bar. No wonder they are so popular!!
It is so weird to hear that about English pub grub. English food, and pub grub in particular, used to be the butt of jokes. Now there is even a Michelin Guide to Eating Out in Pubs.
After a quick thoughtful trip down memory lane, I come up with two back in Nashville, Tennessee. King’s Inn and Rotiers. Great sandwiches and cold beer both places. Snug, awkward, homey, dark and crowded quarters.
When in England, great food can be had by checking out almost any pub.(Pub stands for "Public House" and a centuries old tradition of serving families…far different from our american "bar")For some reason the Enlish pubs love to serve lasagna..and some of the best lasagna in England can be found in a pub.
While not to the same extent, some American bars are more like a quality English Pub. Where have you gotten your best "Pub Grub" at an American bar or pub???
“Pub Grub”
