My favorite :
[:D]
diced potatoes in little squares
bacon
Mayonaise
sweet pickle relish
boiled eggs
salt
pepper
onion flakes
[xx(]No celery, no raw onions, no mustard
For me it’s:
Skinless
Semi-mashed
bacon
Miracle Whip
a little honey mustard
sweet pickles
boiled eggs
garlic salt
pepper
In my family the best salad is made with sliced potatoes, onions, bacon, celery seed, white vinegar, water & sugar. Served hot!!
For me
Classic includes:
Skinless, in medium dice
Chopped white onions
Chopped celery
Chopped DILL pickles
White vinegar
Boiled eggs
Mayo
salt, pepper,
small amount of salad oil
Fancy:
Small red potatoes, skins on, quartered or halved depending on size,
chopped red onion
LOTS of snipped fresh dill
equal parts mayo and sour cream
salt and pepper
OK, Kinda like the slaw survey above… What should or shouldn’t be part of a great Potato Salad. Skins or No Skins? Big Chunks or Semi-Mashed? FOR ME, The list is–
[:p] Must Be Included
Onion
Bacon
Scallions
Pickle(sweet)
Egg(hard-cooked)
Sweet Peppers
Mayo and
Vinegar-based dressing
[xx(]Leave Out-
Mustard
Hot peppers
other veggies
Catalina-based dressing

EDITED FIVE YEARS LATER- I just noticed I forgot to include the ‘Taters- White or Red skinned,skins-on, cut in various sized chunks, including some large pieces.
Since we found the Maple-Flavored Thick-sliced Bacon at COSTCO we have made that a ‘Must Add’ item and increased the amount in the basic Salad Recipe.[:p]
