is that the original(is it even still made) or the chocolate Ovaltine?
Sprinkle Ovaltine on Vanilla or Chocolate Ice Cream. Also great to add to a Milkshake….Russ
Isn’t this apples and oranges? I thought Ovaltine was a malt-based, at-one-time nutritious drink, and Nestle Quick was just a chocolate powder to flavour milk?
Gee, second post already! hehe Best wishes to all.
i take it the new Ovaltine tastes like chocolate milk…and not the stuff of the 50’s!
IT’s all Ovaltine in our house…
the vitamins, etc make the guilt over the sugar go away…
and it helps get the calcuium into the little guys…
we’re not big milk lovers…
So true….I remember well!!!
Mine too. I was hooked first by the commercials on the old Captain Midnight TV show, which ran for one season, then was syndicated as Jet Jackson, because Ovaltine owned the rights to the character name. They had had the rights since the character had started out on radio, then went to comics and a movie serial.
At any rate, the lead actor, Richard Webb, was a great 50’s style hero, and if he said that HE drank it, we sure did.
Ovaltine was a BIG part of my childhood!!!
Ovaltine, ever since I saw Captain Midnight endorsing it
I recently bought a jar of Ovaltine Classic because I forgot what it tasted like. I didn’t like it in milk. I got brave and sprinkled a tablespoon over my hot cereal. It added a nice twist! Then I got braver and dropped a spoonful into the blender with frozen berries, a banana, and vanilla yogurt. Believe it or not, the flavor mixed well with the berries. Yesterday I ate a plain banana, dipping it into Ovaltine powder. But I still can’t stand Ovaltine the way it’s meant to used: in a glass of milk. Yuk. And for those who care, a tablespoon of Ovaltine only has 0.3 g fat and 30 calories. Sugar is the fifth ingredient listed, so it’s minimal. Ovaltine is one way brighten certain simple dishes.
Vitamins for taste…I guess that’s a fair trade off…or is it…????
I believe Nestle Quik is now called Nesquik. Also, Ovaltine has changed their ingredients and for instance, beet juice has been removed and something else used in its place so the vitamins that had come from the beets are no longer in Ovaltine. There’s really no nutrition left in Ovaltine any more.
I vote for the old Bosco bottle with the pump on it.Wish I saved one of those in the 50’s
Would the doctor care for a brandy before retiring? Some varm milk, perhaps? Ovaltine! [;)]
….Quik and Bosco for me. I HATED Ovaltine, I still wonder WHY my mom bought the crap! [:)]
….As a kid I really liked the Bosco jar with the "pump" on it….cool!
