Once in Oklahoma City try the Classen Grill for great Southwest breakfasts served with wonderful fresh squeezed OJ.

We were in Des Moines about 15 years ago and were directed to a steak joint called Jessie’s Embers. The steaks were so great, we went back the next night. Even to this day, the steaks we had there were the standard by which we judge all other steaks.

Dodd’s in Indianapolis was good for fried chicken, but I thought Hollyhock Hill was just a little better. I would also recommend Schmidt’s Sausage Haus in Columbus OH for good homestyle german food and beer and Leo’s BBQ in Oklahoma City has phenominal Beef Brisket BBQ

Dodd’s in Indianapolis has some of the best fried chicken I ever had. Great location, too.

In Indy it must be Shapiros. Right off the interstate and their potato salad is just about the best I’ve ever had. Good corned beef on fresh hand sliced rye too.

Haven’t been to OKC in a long time, but still remember the great home style root beer at Coits.

    Let’s try this again.

Shapiro’s is a fine Kosher style deli at the McCarty Street exit on I-70 south of downtown Indianapolis. Take the exit, and turn left at the light (McCarty St.).
Turn left again at the next light (Meridian) and make an almost immediate right into Shapiro’s parking lot (there are other lots if this lot is full). Try the corned beef or pastrami sandwiches. Expect a long line at lunchtime, but it’s worth the wait.

    Review elsewhere on roadfood.com.

I will be in OKC for about a week, and then on to Des Moines for a month or two. Suggestions for that route would be appreciated, too.
