Don’t forget the superb fried chicken at Jacques-Imo’s, which comes with cornbread and a very tasty choice of sides.

Also, R & O’s Pizza out by the lakefront has an expansive menu that’s all basic and good.

Also, the substantial breakfasts and lunches at the Bluebird Cafe on Prytania, or the sandwiches up at Cooter Brown’s.

All very plain, straightforward good cooking.

Port of Call. Great burgers. Take a cab though. It’s short walk, but that side of the quarter is sketchy after dark. It’ll cost you peanuts.

Just about anywhere you eat will have traditional "meat and potatoes" options. Just try to avoid places with "Seafood" and "Cajun" in the name. Here are a few of my favorites:

Bon Ton Cafe – Beef Tips in red wine sauce

Mothers – The Ferdi, and various other po’boys

    Commander’s Palace – Filet Mignon

Tujaque’s – Brisket (Comes only prix fixe)

Emeril’s – Double cut Pork Chop

    Peristyle – Foie Gras

Bayona: Mixed Grill of Lamb and Quail

You can find sample menus on the internet for most restaurants. here is one from Peristyle, my favorite place:

I don’t think Dickie Brennan’s Steakhouse is open yet, unfortunately.
    They had excellent steaks.

I have to travel to New Orleans for a few days at the end of this month. This may sound like a strange request, but does anyone have a few ideas for some decent plain food while in the Big Easy? I don’t really like Cajun or Creole and I’m not a seafood fan. So are there any recommendations for a good meat & potaotes kind of place??
