I’m on my way..first I come across,I’m in!
I stopped at the Casino Restaurant in Trenton the other day. This place is listed on HollyEats as Casino Tony Goes.
They serve an interesting variation on the Italian dog. Instead of serving the dog on a half round "pizza" bread, they use a roll. The roll had a nice crust but was not too crispy. It stood up to the dog well.
The only complaint I had was that the place smelled horribly of burned grease. Hopefully this is temporary. If you are passing by Trenton at lunch, give this place a try.
See my post of 3.5.06 in this thread for directions to Father & Son.
There are a ton of places in Jersey (mostly in the north) that deep fry their hot dogs. Most are pork/beef and use the Thumann’s dog for deep frying. Examples are Rutt’s Hut, Hiram’s, Goffle Grill, Libby’s, Johnny & Hanges, Hot Dog Heaven, Falls View, and others. Callahan’s (one location left) and Hot Grill use the Sabrett beef and pork dog. All of the Italian Hot Dog joints deep fry or sautee all beef dogs. One place that deep fries a regular beef dog is Amazing Hot Dog.
joyce’s place is on route 88 in brick east of route 70.
That place has a great chili dog .
John can you give us directions from the GSPkwy from the north for those of us that would like to make one last visit to the place.
Fried hotdogs are so good! I never could see why the idea didn’t spread. Any other places fry?
is Joyce’s Place the hot dog place on Mantoloking road headed toward Bay Head?
Hopefully, it will be a relocation rather than a closure.
Definitely my favorite chili of the 2 NJ Dog Tours.
A short video someone made of Syd’s. Wish it was still here.
I live in the area and have noticed in the past that Joyces opens later in the season (I think). I could be wrong though.
Father and Son closing? Another one bites the dust. Too bad…a truly unique place, and my favorite chili dog.
The above is a 3 minute segment that was aired on the Travel Channel’s Hot Dog Heavens. A pretty good piece on Rutt’s Hut. Despite what the narrator says, the dogs are fried in beef tallow, not vegetable oil.
Just thought I would let everyone know that Joyces Place in Brick seems to have one off to dog heaven. Been by there a lot in the last couple of weeks and it has not been open.
I’ve just learned that Father & Son Luncheonette will be closing. There was a rumor on another forum about it, so I called to ask. They will be closing in June sometime and hope to relocate. Their lease is up, and the woman I spoke with didn’t know if they were being kicked out or if the owner chose to leave. They are known for their fine grilled hot dogs (Grote & Weigel all beef) as well as their spicy chili. One of my favorite places to get a hot dog. Hopefully they will open again. Make sure that you make it over there between now and June. They sell chili by the pint, quart, or gallon.
