Movies are …not…based…on fact??? YOU LIE, SIR!!!
The pizza here has never been anything great, either before or after the movie. However, the lucky owners have definately cashed in on their good fortune.
Say, that was Julia Roberts’ first movie wasn’t it? Why Davydd, you sly dog you!
I went there about 10 years ago and found it unremarkable. As Mr. Hoffman says, not bad, just edible. Not a place I’d go back to. Especially with much better choices near by like Kitchen Little or Sea Swirl!
Yes, Mystic Pizza predates the movie. The company used the store on location. They explain that in the restaurant, with pictures of the cast and crew, using the place. It was much smaller then.I remember the small place,too..but the pizza I remember from Mystic Pizza was always nothing much…Costco quality at best.
Was the Mystic Pizza place even open before the movie?
I was in Mystic and never thought to go there. I figured that just because the name of the place is catchy enough for a movie didn’t give it RF credentials. I didn’t see the movie, but I am thinking it didn’t revolve around the quality of the food.
I’ll bet there are other places in the US that hang their hat on some dubious factor other than quality of fare?
I ate at Mysic in about 2005 for lunch. The pizza was very good, but even better were the chef salads
Think about it. They have a large number of tourists coming through every year who won’t be returning anyway. How good does the pizza have to be? As a local, I always referred to it as "a slice of hell." Pizza Grille by the exit, is much better, though nothing to drive many miles for.
I too had some pizza from Mystic while there with my wife. We both were teenagers during the 80’s & remember the movie.
The pizza was just bad…I refer to pizza like this as "Rink Pizza".
Just drive the extra distance to the New Haven area & get a good pie instead.
I’m not much of a pizza fan, but we tried Mystic Pizza, during our, one, only, and I hope last, visit to the Mohegan Casino at Mystic,CT. It was OK, but not worth a detour or a trip. Drive on down to New Haven if you want great pizza.
I never paid much attention to the pizza in the movie. I always wanted to go to Mystic Pizza but not necessarily for the pizza. [;)]
I had a pie at Mystic Pizza back in around 1995 or 1996. It was pretty unimpressive. There was nothing wrong with it, and it certanly beat the pants off anything I can get in Ohio, but I also had pies during that visit at Pepe’s The Spot and Sally’s.
I remember the Movie "Mystic Pizza" and have tried the terrible frozen "Mystic Pizza" sold at Costco. So when we were in Mystic Connecticut, I had to take my family to the one and only, original "Mystic Pizza" Boy were we shocked!!!! The pizza was terrible…I mean terrible…as bad as any "american" garbage like Pizza Nut, Dominos etc. It was NOT an Italian(or Greek, like in the movie) pizza. Anybody out there tried the real Mystic Pizza. What was your reaction?
Mystic Pizza?????What is that??
