Recycled menu art…
I think I’ve got takeout menus for just about every place in a 50 mile radius that has existed since 2001.
Not sure why. I don’t generally do takeout, and only one place delivers here.
I have many of these menus from all around the country. I usually pick one up when I visit a restaurant (particularly “roadfood”-type) when I’m out of town on business, as a way to remind me of the place in case I ever return, or need to make a recommendation to friends. I keep them in my travel file at work.
We generally only have pizza delivered at home.
My favorite Chinese-American restaurant delivers, but not to my area (it’s quite a distance from my house), so we have to drive up and get carry-out if we want to eat it at home. We always take either a cooler or an insulated bag to keep the food hot.
Many of the local Chinese places in South Minneapolis send out menus in the mail, in those Valpak coupon mailings, or have some guy drop them off on our doorstep. When I got one from a Chinese place that was about 10 minutes from my house, I ordered from it, once, because they had an unusual egg foo yong combination (mushrooms and peapods!) that intrigued me. Unfortunately, the delivery took forever and although the food did arrive fairly hot, the quality wasn’t good enough for me to order from there again.
I live 45 miles west of Chicago so we are in an area where pizza is pretty much the only delivery option so we just call in an order and pick up on the way home. My partner works in a larger city where they can get Chinese delivered but many times it’s wrong so they now call in and send someone to pick up.
I like take out menus for take out only. Delivery either takes days longer…is cold squished leaking in some manner…or just wrong.
I notice most of the respoders are from NY/NJ. Most cities, even large one still do not have many options as far as delivery goes.
I must confess, I have about 20 in my car. With cell a phone I can call ahead and it will be ready when I get to the place I choose when I start my commute home.
I have about 10 in a kitchen drawer and a half dozen or so in a file under my favorites.
I rarely get take out anymore for lunch at work, but I still hold onto the menus, just in case. Have probably 7 or 8 paper ones, and several more in PDF on my pc’s desktop.
I only have 4 but we do use them. Never for delivery, we always go and pick it up. They are Thai, Chinese, BBQ and pizza.
I am a big delivery and take-out menu collector. I have at least 20 at home and another 10 at work. At the most I order from 5 of the places, yet I keep collecting. Does everyone have this problem or do I need to join a support group for my habit? 😛 Has anyone actually tried all the menus he/she has?
