Very sad news. Mekato’s was almost as standard a stop as Kopp’s on numerous visits. Wonderful pastries, great empanadas, and a chimichuri sauce that couldn’t be beat!
I will check at my earliest convenience to make sure their Chicago outpost is still in operation.

very sad! I remember getting a ticket parked in front of there for not feeding the meter, but the food! The food was worth it!!!! [V]
Chicago location is, to the best of my knowledge, still open.
Yeah, I knew the MKE one has been in trouble for a long time.
They changed their menu and focus, and lost what they had.
Mekatos, a Colombian restaurant/bakery in Milwaukee, has closed. The place was small and very informal, but was a favorite lunch and snack stop for many of us in The Contingent. I have no idea if the Chicago Mekatos is still open, but plan to find out before my next trip to the Windy City. This place was a hidden gem in Milwaukee–apparently much too hidden. I will miss the empanadas, pan de yuca, and Colombian tamales the most.
