Where did you go? How was it?
Yeah, skip the fish fry, go to Jake’s!!! [:o)]
We can get butter burgers at Culvers in Lawrence, KS. Jake’s deli sounds interesting. I am diabetic, so custard is probably out, since I’m sure they don’t do sugar free.
Serb Hall is about 8 miles from New Berlin. Get on W National Ave and follow it West after it becomes W Oklahoma Ave.
My favorite Milwaukee place for lunch is Jake’s deli. And don’t miss a chance to get some ice cream (custard) at Kopp’s or Leon’s. Kopp’s also has one of the best grilled cheese sandwiches I have ever had, and good burgers. Solly’s butter burgers don’t do anything for me. The butter flavor ovewhelms everything else.
There’s no shortage of dinner fish fry choices but a lunch one in that area is a bit tougher so Maxwells was out anyway. Panos Char House might be a choice-20290 W. Bluemound Rd.-Brookfield, WI 53045-PH: (262)782-8670 as well as Greenfield Municipal Golf Course 12035 W. Greenfield Ave., West Allis, WI (414) 453-1750
Go to Solly’s on N. Port Washington Rd (4629, I believe) for a famous butter burger, great salad, and a shake.
I’m not sure if they’re open for lunch but Calhoun Hall on Calhoun Rd. Just south of Greenfeild had a very good fish fry last time I was back there. A long way from New Berlin, but great, was Lakefront Brewery down by, you guessed it, the lakefront. They even offered Bluegills. I didn’t like Maxwells when I went there, too much breading on to little fish.
Venice Club is very good, but Albanese’s in Waukesha has the fish fry I like best. They bread the fish in the Sicilian steak sandwich breading. Mmmmmm. 2301 W Bluemound Rd, Waukesha – (262) 785-1930. The number for the deli is 262-754-6566.
They are on Bluemound, across from the Home Depot & Sam’s Club. Take Moorland to Bluemound, turn left to go west, and keep going. Go past Calhoun, Brookfield Rd. As you come up to Barker Rd, get in the far right lane, to continue on Bluemound, past the Perkins & it’s not that far past the Home Depot, on the left hand side of the road. No potato pancakes, but you can get a side of spaghetti. [8D]
(I just now saw you are staying in New Berlin, edited post to change directions.)
It depends on what you like. I want potato pancakes with my fish fry, so while I live only 20 blocks from Serb Hall, it’s not a place I go to. It’s location wouldn’t be an outrageous distance away, but you should be able to find something closer and possibly better. Although housed in a hotel, I’ve had a friend tell that they enjoyed the fish fry at Maxwell’s 1005 S. Moorland Road Brookfield, WI 53005 Phone: (262) 786-9540 which is adjacent to New Berlin. I’ll try to call them later today and see if they serve fish at lunch. Fwiw, I love Maders and suspect you’ll really enjoy your dinner there. We’ll be there this Friday evening for their Oktoberfest block party.
OK, I got a hold of Maxwells which is in the Best Western and they only do a lunch buffet. Fridays it includes fried fish and a baked fish but you should be able to find a made to order place.
It’s been years but this place rocked when I ate there in the past. They do have a Friday luncheon fish fry and it’s close to New Berlin-Venice Club-1905 N. Calhoun Rd.-Brookfield, WI 53005-Phone: (262) 786-8323 I see they do Lake Perch and potato pancakes even though its primarily an Italian restaurant.
We’re going to Milwaukee next Thursday for my Nephew’s wedding. My Brother in Law is having the rehersal dinner at Mader’s Thursday night, and the wedding and recention are Friday evening.
I’m looking for a good place to have lunch Friday – my Wife nad I both love fish frys like we grew up eating in Western New York (unknown in Kansas, sadly), and I saw that the Serb Hall started their fish fry at 11:30 AM on Fridays. We’re staying in New Berlin – is the Serb Hall far from there? Are there any places with a better fish fry lunch?
