I’d be happy to drive a hundred miles out of my way to eat at Louis Lunch. And, I’ve never been there! lleechef’s pictures above make my mouth water.
I believe if you’re coming from the west Exit 48 would be where you’d want to get off I-95. That should put you on Church Street, which you take to Crown Street. There, you take a left about three blocks to Louis Lunch. But, there’s a lot of construction going on at and near the exits in the downtown area, so be prepared. Regardless, Going to Louis (pronounced mostly as Looie’s) is well worth any traffic problems.
Hopefully someone with more knowledge than me will chime in, but Louis Lunch isn’t very far from I-95 at all. The difficulty will be in finding a parking spot. It is still very much worth the effort for the detour.
Great photos lleechef!
I don’t know if Louis Lunch is easily accessible to I95…….but even if it’s not, it’s worth the detour! It’s a wonderful experience! The burgers are good but the ambiance is fantastic and so are the two guys behind the counter. Oh, and sit at the counter if you can and chat with them…….great, funny guys. Louis Lunch and Frank Pepe’s were my two best experiences when we went to New Haven in June!!
MH can chime in about the I95 directions.
Ms OC and I will be passing through New Haven in September. I was wondering if Louis Lunch is an easy off and back on for 95 North. I was also wondering, is it Lewis or Looey?
Booooooooooooo. So hang around New Haven…..go visit the park in the city they call The Green……get a coffee……..ANYTHING……..but really, really try not to miss Louis Lunch!!!
Thanks for the help everyone. Turns out Louis Lunch doesn’t open until 11, my itinerary puts us in Mystic before that. Guess we will have to wait until the next trip. [:(]
lleechef … nice photos.
It's always fun to meet and eat with David. A couple of the spots were off a bit from last time but not enough to give up on them. The smoked brisket chili and fried shrimp were world class. Can't wait to do it next May with David and Danny.
I agree completely. I would never give up on a place like Gary Lee’s, which was absolutely sensational the first time, without giving it at least a couple of more tries. And even though it was a bit off, it was still pretty damn good. And with Danny with us, since he has all those connections through the Sultan, I’m sure every place we go will bring out their A game.
And Chris said he was planning on joining us as well, so it will be fun to meet him.
Lots of great places to try! You should consider coming with us to Grady’s the day we leave Charleston.
