Carrol’s…Carrol’s….CARROL’S….my wanton stomach cries out for the world famous CLUBBURGER. My friend Tom and I use to work at the carwash. Slavin’ over hot sudsy water splashed in our faces for eight hours a day. But boy, when payday came, zooom.,.,.right over to Carrol’s. We’d get 2 or 3 Clubburgers each, with EXTRA sauce. I can still see that sauce drippin’ down Tom’s cheek onto his pants. Ha-ha-ha. Red Barn was right down the road., and sometimes that Barnbuster would call our names, but for the money, it was the CLUBBURGER. I knew a guy who worked there and he told me one day that the special sauce was called "Crisbow Royal Sauce."(sp?) All the times that we remember, Carrol’s was always crowded with people. And then,……they were gone. How sad. Bring em’ back and watch Micky D’s go down the toilet.
There are two White Tower restaurants in downtown Dayton, Ohio.
I recall Dipper Dan’s from the same time period. Early 70’s at South Dekalb Mall, (metro Atlanta). Being the kid I was, I thought the "Pink Bubble Gum" was a great flavor. [xx(] These days, I am lucky if I do a fat-free yogurt, or a sugar-free popcicle.
Wonder if they were nationwide, or just the South>[?] Being in your 20’s, might you recall when they disappeared?
I recall Dipper Dan’s; not from Atlanta area though. LOL. [:o)]
Seemed like there was one on about every block in mid-town if it’s the one I’m remembering from business trips to NYC in the late 70’s/early 80’s. Maybe I’m confusing the two, but there was also Beef & Brew which was a similar concept that concentrated more on gourmet hamburgers, but w/ the same all the beer you could drink approach. They might have been part of the same ownership group. Both were fast, reliable and with above average food as I recall. [:p][:p]
Bonita Springs, FL
Does anyone remember a chain of restaurants on the East Coast I think, called Steak & Brew? I went to one in NYC mid 70’s and you got a great steak ( hey I was 20 so my steak experience was very limited) and salad bar and all the beer you could drink. I only remember getting pulled over by the New Jersey SP afterwards. The beer probably outdid the steak. I don’t know what geography they were in and how long they lasted.
You’ve gotta drive right on past End-of-the-World and drop off down into Utah. There are two Hires in Salt Lake City. They are a local favorite![:p]
ps. you can still get carhop service[:D]
