The husband and I usually just grill burgers, roast ears of corn, and have french fries and a salad and watermelon on the deck and relax with a nice Merlot while listening to the crickets sing and enjoying the tiki torches. I know it might sound kind of rednecky, but it’s good, fun and relaxing.Andrea
Wow! I never knew that Rednecks drank Merlot!!!!
Rednecks drink anything. I personally know[}:)][:D]
I have had my share of real moonshine from my grandfathers personal distillery to Dom.

Hello All,
Paul, I am sneaking a cyber piece of your pizza and sucking down your cocktail while you are not looking.[:D]
Annepeeples, nothing better than fire, crickets chirping and the stars above you. hmmm
Xannie0l, after your work with your chiles, put your feet up and let the hubster rub them. Then rub his.
Paul, what kind of pizza and cocktail?
Take Care,

i’ll be spending the day with our new
labor day tradition..
cleaning our roasted chiles
and freezing them for the winter.
It is raining in Knoxville and i am glad. It sorta messes up the Labor day but we really nead the moisture. I think I will go out side a play and enjoy it. Later on I think I will have a cocktail and order a pizza.
I have been watching the NHRA races. Our car is not there (Indianapolis)this year.

Just went and got tiki torches on clearance….will enjoy them, as well as the chorus of crickets this evening…nothing rednecky about!!!I have learned sometimes simple IS the best![:o)]
Hello All,
We never had Labor Day traditions when I grew up, except watching Jerry Lewis.
Usually, my father had to work. He got paid extra, since he had a union, but would have to work if
the day fell on his work day schedule.
I have to work this evening, not getting paid extra for working on a holiday. I have no union.
So I’ll have a sip of beer in honour of all those who fought to help the American worker.
Then I’ll take a small sleep until I wake to go to work, and hopefully, I’ll dream a sweet
dream that will get me through my workday.
Appreciate this day. Relax and have fun, but we have more wonderful growth ahead of us before
all workers are honoured and paid fairly. Remember, there is no act of labour that is not
honourable and respectful. The person at McDonald’s who gives you your fries and burger, the staff-person
at the hospital or old-folks home who wipes your bottom or your parent’s bottom, the carpenter who
builds your house, the mechanic who fixes your car, the person who sewed the clothes you bought,
the worker who picked your vegetable, and the people who plan and manage the workings of all the
products we consume and enjoy, and most of to our mothers and fathers, especially, Mothers, who worked and work harder out of love; are all workers. I could go on, but hey, getting boring am I… (yodaism) are to honoured and feel pride.
I sip my beer in honour and appreciation of us all who labour. (I think I took too many sips of beer[:D]
But lastly, to those who are retired…thank you for the years of labour you gave to our society.
Long may we all live and prosper.
Take Care,
Fieldthistle

There’s very few of us who don’t have some holiday spoiled by a loved one’s death, so I feel you, Benzee. Hope your memories are good and not sad.
Mr. Mandalay and I take our annual vacation Labor Day week. This year we’re up in Calgary, Alberta. We went to Banff National Park today, and tomorrow we’ll be in the stand as the CFL’s Calgary Stampeders take on (and hopefully beat) the Edmonton Eskimos. Go Stamps!
Hello all ,
Pwingsx and salsailsa thanks for the kind words .
Please enjoy the rest of the weekend , spending it with family really helps
Benzee
Seems like the last couple of years it’s become a tradition for me to work on Labor Day, it’s one of our biggest weekends.

In Hermosa Beach CA they have the Fiesta de la Artes where local artists, woodcarvers, stained-glass window makers, jewelry-makers, etc come compete and sell their wares. Nowadays I work because it is time-and-a-half, then I take a day off later in the week. Next week I will be heading to the hot springs!

Hello all ,Since 1997 Labor Day has been pretty much a bummer for me .
My Dad passed away of Pancreatic Cancer after being diagnosed only three weeks prior .
He had great company though with Princess Di and Mother Teresa all within a few weeks .
We pretty much spent his last day watching Jerry Lewis and his telethon .
To this day we make a donation in his memory .
Sorry about the downer .
We will still enjoy the barbecues and memories , but I really cannot wait until Tues morn .
Benzee
Very sad. I’m sorry to hear that the day is such a difficult one for you.
Benzee, you have my sympathy. Losing loved ones on or near major holidays colors them for the rest of your life.
