i don’t know if any more krystal’s are slated to open in houston (there is one out in the ‘burbs apparently) but i did find them here in a vending machine of all places…[:0]
I don’t know how Krystal’s are now, but back in the early 1990’s, living in Tuscaloosa, Al., they were a treat for me and my young family. The wife was completing her education at University of Al. and we were living on a mac an cheese budget. The burgers were a treat, but the krystal pups and fries were a utter delight. My two little ones thought it was special since the times were tough for us moneywise.
Kyrstal in my area just went under. [:(]
They were so much better than most other offerings. WB still there, though…
[:D]Food tv is doing a show on burgers oct 3rd Hamburgers unwrapped….whaite castles are mentioned not sure if Krystals are…[:(]
Was in Longview, Texas last Saturday and saw that a new Krystal is under construction on the loop. [:D]
"…and was wondering if Krystal’s has one of those Garlic burgers also?"
Nope. Not as of today. They sound good, though.
Apparently WC has laid in a supply of garlic cheese. They have a bunch of new menu items that feature it. Wonder if they’ll do the garlic cheesesticks?[xx(][V]
Oh heck! I just finished eating at a White Castle’s in my hometown of Wentzville, Missouri and they just added a Garlic Cheeseburger and Garlic Chicken to the menu…Not bad at all!! I am heading to the Mid-South of Memphis/ Little Rock and was wondering if Krystal’s has one of those Garlic burgers also? P.S. Bring your toothbrush if you eat em’! Straight up I couldn’t even get a kiss from my girlfriend [:I]…LOL
Mash em’ out Arsenal
I was in a tight spot tonight at work and couldn’t find time to get out to get something to eat, so I swallowed my pride and took a chance on the wheel of death. One of the items in our frozen case was White Castle cheeseburgers, and as a matter of fact, they were the only edible items in the case. I decided to give them a try. They’re nothing like the Sliders they sell up the road a ways. The frozed Whiteys reminded me more of Krystal burgers. Not at all bad, when you consider that my other choice was something called the "Burrito Of Death". I can’t say that I’ll head up to the cafeteria the next time the CRAVE hits, but they make a decent option if I’m ever forced to eat here.
LOL, you’re welcome. There’s a few listed roadfood stops in West Liberty too, but I’ve only been to the ice cream place–good stuff. I’d like to try the restaurant that has pork tenderloins sometime, but we don’t get up that way very often.
There’s also a trout farm along 68(?), Freshwater Farms, I think it is? Haven’t been there in a while, but they had a little store which sold fresh trout (and you can feed the live ones outside in their tanks), smoked trout and tasty dips made from the smoked trout.
I will be now. Thanks for the tip. [;)]
I like White Castle, but had a chance to try a Krystal burger for the first time this past summer. They’re definitely not alike, and all in all, I prefer WC… That steamed oniony goodness is what makes the difference for me. Oh, and I’m not sure I’ve seen anyone mention their jalapeno cheeseburgers? Oh, baby… [}:)]
A few years ago, we also tried Crabill’s up in Urbana, OH:
They were more similar to Krystal burgers than WC, IMO. I did like sitting at the counter being able to watch the ladies working there fry up the hamburger patties and joke around with the regulars. It’s a good roadfood stop if you’re in the area seeing the Ohio caverns like we were.
No, you’re right. You were also right when you said "what in the hell does that have to do with taste anyway?"
Trust me, I was raised on Whitey’s and indulge whenever the urge hits, but whenever we get south of Northern Kentucky, which is usually some time during high school football season, Wally and T.P. happily do Krystal.
Now if I could only convince my kids.
Had my first Krystals in April while in Pigeon Forge, TN. Liked them and ate 6 of them.
I could tell them apart easily when I tried a Krystal burger for the first time back in March (grew up on White Castle).
Don’t get me wrong, Krystal was good, but no question I prefer White Castle (and preferences aside, was easy to tell them apart if you know one of them very well, which I do).
I didn’t say you couldn’t differentiate one from the other..
