I sent you a personal email regarding my schedule for the Royal. As I have not heard back from you, I am wondering, did you receive it?
wow..i finally have something to plan for next year[:o)]
drat. Stupid lack of funds [:(] Maybe next year? The line up sounds great!
The Kanasas City BBQ Roadfood Tour has been cancelled due to lack of interest. BuddyRoadhouse, shoot me an email if you are interested in meeting for dinner on Saturday after the BBQ Contest is over.
Okay, we’ve got three "nays". How about some "yays".
If you’re planning on attending, you need to indicate so now. cnw will have some preparation to do in anticipation of this event, and the more advance notice with the most accurate head count will make life a lot easier.
I have stated clearly what my limitations are for attendance.
Who else is in on this adventure?
I just finished Calvin Trillin’s Tummy Trilogy. What I wouldn’t give right now for a KC bbq romp. Unfortunately, no disposable income at the moment. Please please please take pictures.
Unfortunately The Mayor’s Fall trip is going to have to wait until February when it will be combined into the Glee Club’s Texas Romp. No KC BBQ for us in October…. (and the many other stops we were planning on) [:(][8)]
Well folks, I can’t say right now if I’m in or not. It all depends on the job situation or lack thereof. I’d really like to join you all in KC, but must play it by ear right now. Guess I’m a definite "maybe". Please keep me in the loop, because I want to join you if I possibly can.
The way we finally got everyone who was coming to the Great Chicagoland Italian Beef Tour to commit was to ask for a simple "I’m in!" response.
So, all you folks who are planning to attend the KCBBQ Tour, please reply with an "I’m in" and Chris will know who to contact with further details.
Due to my participation in the Royal, my attendance on Saturday will be tenuous and limited to the evening hours. My best bet will be to get someone’s cellphone number; call when things wrap up at the Royal, and catch up with the group when and where I can.
Have we decided for sure to split this up into a Saturday/Sunday event? If so, I will be able to join up with you for most of the Sunday leg of the tour. Also, a second day will take a lot of the pressure off for trying to hit all these places in a short period of time.
As for "The List", I would second the motion for BB’s Lawnside (MFL you know all the good places to eat don’t you?) and the addition of LC’s on Saturday (they’re not open on Sunday). If we’re talking about a two day run, I would also suggest adding RJ’s in Roeland Park. Now, who should be dropped?
Speaking from experience as one of the organizers of The Great Chicagoland Italian Beef Tour last March, I can tell you we’ll want joints that can easily adapt to a large group of people dropping in on a VERY casual and somewhat disorganized basis. This means the rearrangement of tables, ordering a very small amount of food for the size group we will presumably be (after all, you’re not going to try eating an entire brisket sandwich at each stop, are you? We’ll more than likely be splitting sandwiches at each stop), and general disruption of the way these places normally do business.
That said, I don’t know much about Jones BBQ, Mighty Mo, Woodyard, or Smokin’ Guns. I do know that Jack’s Stack caters to a slightly more upscale, sit-down crowd and might not be able to accomodate or appreciate the hit and run goals of a group like ours. As such, although they serve excellent ‘Que and great food in general, they would be my first choice to drop from the list.
Also, even though Gates was on my original list, if push comes to shove, they would be another candidate for deletion. True, they are a KC icon, but they are a "chain", and with limited time and space in my belly, I would feel better visiting and supporting independent owners and operations.
That’s my two cents as a "part time" KC resident. What do the natives think?
For some reason, Google pulled up the page from last years schedule at nascar.com instead of this years and I didn’t catch it. So, the problem does not exist after all. If we add LC’s and BB’s Lawnside, who do we drop if anyone? Also, since the issue has been addressed, who plans on being here?
Oct. 1 Kansas Speedway

Sept. 30 Kansas Speedway
Yellow Transportation 300
Nothing with the Craftsman Truck series in your area…

Better check Smokin’ Gun for that weekend. They seem to close during competitions. I think they are very good and should be included in the tour if they’re open. Glad to see Woodyard on your list. LC’s needs to be on the list for Saturday as they are normally closed on Sundays. Mmmmm….LCs[:)]
BB’s Lawnside BBQ

My co-chairman at the American Royal Barbecue Sauce Store, also a KC native and resident, informs me that both the NASCAR event and the Chiefs home game are the week before the Royal, making for clear sailing that weekend. He could be wrong, but I’d check your calendar again before getting too worked about any conflict.
P.S. That’s a fine looking list there, but I think you’re cheating yourself if you don’t include LC’s on the tour.
