I don’t know whether there’s one at the Landing, but I had a really good meal at Al’s Pizza – there are six locations around the city – earlier in the year.
I have an email out to a worker who found something on the other side of the river (which may be near the CP) that he described as being “better than anything you would find at the Landing.” Of course, in my opinion, that ain’t saying much. He seemed to think that the best option AT the Landing was Bubba Gump’s. I have read on these boards that the one in Times Square in Manhattan is a worthwhile stop, but….well….never mind.
He couldn’t remember the name of the place, though, so I am trying to contact someone else who was with the group for the name of the place.
One thing about JAX – the airport is on the very north side of town. A cab ride to downtown will be expensive. I hope you have alternate arrangements for travel to and from the airport. Google Maps says it is something like 15 miles – but, honestly, it has always seemed farther than that!
Not really roadfood, but the best I’ve tried at the Landing was American cafe. Ribs and mashed potatoes.
Fortunately for me, I’m speaking at a sponsored conference and my cab fare will be reimbursed.
Thanks again to everyone, for your help!
Unfortunately, I will not have a car, and I have only two hours for lunch on Friday, so I can’t venture far from the vicinity of the Crowne Plaza and/or Jacksonville Landing. I’m leaving Saturday afternoon, right after the conference concludes around 11 a.m.
I assume there’s nothing edible at the airport, either?
I enjoyed the Landing very much while I was in Jacksonville. There is a variety of restaurants (some you don’t want to hit)…but some great ones just the same. My fav was Chicago Pizza – GREAT Roadfood! A must for me when I pass through there.
There were several other great options that I can’t think of their names right now.
The water taxi ride was a +++ also.
I am going to Jacksonville later this week for a conference. We’ll have a 2-hour lunch break on Friday, and I’d like to get a decent lunch. The conference is at the Crowne Plaza, and we’re being encouraged to take a water taxi to Jacksonville Landing at lunchtime.
Is there any place in the vicinity that would be good? I won’t have a car, and I’m not familiar with the geography of Jacksonville.
I did search this forum, but as best I can tell, the recommended places aren’t near where I’ll be. If I’m mistaken, I’d appreciate being corrected on that.
Many thanks for any suggestions.
If you have a car Singleton’s in Mayport (reviewed on Roadfood) is worth the drive; about 1/2 north of Jacksonville.
Sorry. I wish I had better news. I will ask a colleague who gets up that way if there is anything even remotely worth suggesting.
How disappointing! Thanks for the information, anyway.
Jacksonville (the city, and in particular, downtown) is a Roadfood black hole. The Landing is the touristy area where you will find tourist-aimed theme restaurants.
Jacksonville, Florida in the vicinity of Jacksonville Landing
