I like "Jerry’s Catfish" on highway 49 about 10 miles south of I-20; "Bubba’s" for BBQ ribs; the "Elite" in downtown (great rolls, see review on Mississippi link from Roadfood homepage); "George Street Grocery" for beer and blues (although someone on one of the forums suggested that their food is also good).
I’m partial to a place called Crechale’s, 3107 Highway 80 West, 601-355-1840. It’s a classic road house, dating from 1956, with a first-rate juke box. I love their ribeye, but the fried shrimp are hard to resist, so I usually get a steak and a child’s portion of shrimp alongside. The late Willie Morris was a frequent diner there.

Go to the Cherokee Inn. it’s a "good ol’ boy" bar that has excellent oyster loaves and fried dill pickles. I believe they were locally voted "best homestyle food" in the Jackson area. Also I understand Hal’s and Mal’s a brewpub downtown has good food, although I did not eat their. Just drank.
We will soon be taking our periodic trek from New Orleans to northern Arkansas to visit family. If we leave NO mid-afternoon, Jackson makes a good dinner stop. Recommendations? The interesting Jackson destinations I’ve found on the board so far seem to serve lunch only.
