Before this thread gets too tiresome and, it might already be. Here’s more on the POTUS’ visit to BBQ land.

Jim, that Hitler rant video never gets old and always entertains.[8D]
Ahem. Let’s not project our political feelings, positive or negative, into this barbeque thread.
In this, our President is indeed a fortunate man and conducted himself as a civilized gentleman – unlike some others:

MJ,
I hadn’t heard about the President going to Franklin’s, but when I saw your headline I knew what it was going to be about.
Did he pay for his meal? LMAOROTF – Now that’s funny.
Jim
The news I heard was that he bought $300 worth of ribs.
Hope he also tried the brisket with some cappuccino sauce.[:p]
I suspect we ALL paid for it
Did his wife approve of the meal he had?
I’m guessing probably no:
The Yahoo story Twinwillow posted also says there were two customers behind the President.
In this case, it seems Obama handled himself well paying for the meals of the two customers behind him in line Bruce Finsted and his daughter Faith
I’m not calling anyone a liar. I wasn’t there, and I don’t think you were, either.
The Huffington Post may have gotten it wrong. Here’s the pool report from the Austin paper, which says there were two people in front of the President, not behind him.
So I don’t know. But in any event, I’m done.
From the Austin American-Statesman:
Less than 24 hours after polishing off some barbecue from John Mueller, Barack Obama hit another one of Austin s most famous men of smoked meat on his way out of town.
Following his speech at the Paramount, President Obama s motorcade traveled to Franklin Barbecue on East 11th Street. The restaurant is well known for its great brisket and extremely long waits, but the president circumvented that using the powers of his office.
I know this is a long line. I feel real bad, but I m gonna cut, Obama said, according to a pool report from the Statesman s Chuck Lindell. Aaron Franklin told the Statesman’s Ciara O’Rourke that nobody cuts the line at Franklin … except Obama. (http://www.statesman.com/news/news/local/franklin-patrons-excited-to-see-obama-even-after-h/ngc4T Read more from her report on the scene at Franklin on Statesman.com.)
Obama entered the restaurant and shook hands with customers as he made small talk on his way to the register.
When he arrived at the counter, Obama offered to pay for the order for the two people in front of him — Bruce Finstad of Houston and his daughter Faith of Austin. After they ordered three pounds of brisket, two pounds of ribs, and a half-pound each of turkey and sausage, Obama said, How many folks are you guys feeding? Just kidding.
President Obama ordered almost $300 in barbecue not including the Finstad s order and paid with a credit card, after shoving a wad of cash back into his pocket. The president was headed to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport after his stop at Franklin. I bet he takes a nap on the flight home.
Here’s Yahoo’s take.

Still waiting…
Gonna call him a liar?
I’ll quote Obama:
Obama said, “I know this is a long line. I feel real bad, but I’m gonna cut.”
JRPfeff: The moderators are going to come in and lock this thread pretty soon, I expect.
I quoted the Huffington Post as saying he “cut in front of” two people. I would like to know your source for the statement that it was more people. If you have a citation, I’ll stand corrected.
Bullcrap. If it was just 2 people why did he need to cut in line? That is a stupid statement.
Is Franklin’s close to the border?
OH, I guess not.
It doesn’t sound to me like either of the two people in line behind the President didn’t get their food. So I don’t know what your last sentence is referring to, JRPfeff.
From the Huffington Post:
That village includes the two people Obama jumped in line. They put “three pounds of beef, two pounds of ribs, a half-pound of sausage and a half-pound of turkey” on the president’s tab,http://www.chron.com/news/houston-texas/houston/article/Free-lunch-in-Austin-after-Obama-cuts-in-line-5612934.php reports the Houston Chronicle. After hearing their order, Obama joked, “https://twitter.com/chucklindell/status/487313704694738944 Now hold on. How many folks are you guys feeding? Just kidding.”
Per Austin360, http://www.austin360.com/weblogs/the-feed/2014/jul/10/obama-visits-franklin-barbecue-buys-lunch-couple-p Obama ended up paying around $300 for his own order, and an undisclosed amount more to cover the people he cut in line.
