I just want to know how you guys figured out what I’m having today? After laying around the pool all afternoon I fired the grill to make some Italian Sausage as my wife takes care of the rolls and peppers & onions inside. And of course Sausage Peppers & Onions always goes best with a Ice Cold Beer.Today’s variety happens to be the ole’ Michelob bottle.

Now I know what kind of sausage to get.
The closest I’ve come on a national brand is New Johnsonville. Pretty good. For that matter, a Minnesotan transplanted to TN once told me that aside from her husband, the best thing about TN was that one could get New Johnsonville brats there.
I have a local Italian deli that makes great Italian sausages. I always make a point of throwing some on the smoker when I get it going. Nothing like fresh smoked Italian sausage.[:p] I do fennel, hot & a garlic romano.[:D]
The best sausage, onions and peppers heroes I’ve ever had were from the stalls at the San Gennaro Festival in Little Italy in NYC. The smell wafting from those carts was pure nirvana. Walking down the street with a rapidly diasppearing hero in one hand and a bag of zeppollis in the other was a little bit of heaven.

I grew up in the Hudson Valley area of New York and remember the great sausage and peppers at the county fairs. Haven’t had one in a while but they are easy to make. This year I vow to make a couple at home! Now that I am in Va I we have Domenic’s of New York here in front of Lowes as fdm813 noted, also in a couple other places. They make a good sandwich.
Sundancer, the sausage and pepper sandwich is a summertime staple in Central New York. High quality Italian sausage is the key of course. We had a couple local butchers making it when I was growing up. The grocery stores carry good brands now, including Gianelli’s and Carmen Basillio’s. Lately I’ve been making my own, using Bruce Aidell’s cook book.
My brother and I visited an old college roommate of his, in San Francisco. His wife treated us to sausage sandwichs know my brother had introduced them to her husband in college. Well, she had some gourmet sausages, and peppers saute’d in wine. It was good, but it wasn’t a New York State Fair kind of experience, (we were too embarassed to ask for ketchup and hot sauce). The beer was good though!
Recently had the best Italian sausage that I have eaten in years at the Bad Dog Tavern on 4535 N. Lincoln Avenue in Chicago. Although the bun was too big for my taste, the sausage was unbelievable, tasting as good as it smelled.
Ever been to a Lowes store with Dominics of New York cart out front? That smell is addicting.
Mr. Mayor, if you read my thoughts, I did not eat what I wrote about. I sorta wished I did , but I cannot do that because of old age. Sure did smell good though. My diet did not take me away from my five o’clock treat though.

When do you find time to race? With a diet of Turkey Legs, Fried Twinkies, and Stuffed sausage rolls (and Beer), I would nap the day away![;)]
We were at the NHRA drags today in Bristol, TN. One of the things that always catches my olafactory senses are the Italian sausages, onions and peppers that are cooking when you go in. They had these huge rolls of sausages cooking on the grill surrounded by lotsa onions and bell peppers. They smell so good. Unfortunately they do not always taste as good as they smell. Anyway, I always buy them. Usually I need a six pack of Pepcid to go with them. I guess the beer I had did not help, but it sure did taste good.
