I have been up and running for 3 weeks now. My sales avg for week one was $49 a day, week 2 $61 and now wk 3 $68.00. Is this too slow of a rate of growth as far as this business goes? I am in a very small but well traveled town which has truckers and “loyal locals”. I am seeing new people every day who tell me they “hear” my dogs are the best! Every week i have 1 day that is absolutely awful and it makes me want to run for the construction sites. All of my “loyal locals” tell me this is a rough town and to be consistent and it will continue to grow… everyone seems to be a pro on this subject…LOL! I do have a lead on a construction site in Jax. But the gas and time would be a great expense to “try” it out, however i hear the $$ made is 3 and 4 times of my gross here. I want to stick this out due to the fact its 3 miles from home and i seem to be getting a new crowd every day along with my loyals. When or how long do you stick it out before you move or or try other areas???? [:(]
I have a full concession trailer- not a cart. I serve Nathans and Johnsonville Brats, extras- chili, cheese, slaw-HUGE HIT!!! , kraut, fresh chopped onions and onions/peppers for brats, chips and drinks.
I’m serving hot dogs and brats w/ peppers/onions- the brats are 3.50 solo or 5.00 for a combo(chips & drink) those are my money makers. I am really thinking of adding nachos w cheese/japalenos and up charge for chili but don’t know the going rate as i maybe would charge 3.00/4.00 for that. I’m not sure this town is ready for cheese steak, though i will never know if i don’t try! where do you get your supplies for cheese steak? my main stops are sams and restaurant depot. Any suggestions?? Thanks for you help[:D]
Thanks Mike…I’ll stick it out.
Hey KBB,Its so bad here here Fla,my wife and I have to work 2 spots on Fri and Sat to make that $100 plus you make on a Sat so be happy just enjoy those big days…
What else do you sell? You will need something other than dogs to make a real go of it. Yes, there is profit in dogs, but not enough unless you are in a real high foot traffic area. You need something that you can sell and make more than a dollar or two profit and sell it with some volume like a sandwich or something along those lines that you have a $1.50 in and can sell for $5 to $8 a pop. That is what you will need to do to really make some serious coin in my book, as that is what I am doing. The dogs get them in, the cheese steaks keep the doors open and pay the bills.

well, if the money is increasing daily/weekly I would say yes it’s working. You are going to have ups & downs with the business. Some weeks might be weird & others you just might sell out. Just keep doing what you are doing and keep it simple. Be reliable & ppl will trust you and come to you.
One more thing… My last 2 Saturdays were just over 100.00- so do i look at that as a possible standard? Pls help ya’ll i need some feedback!! [:D]
Hi KBB. If you’re seeing new people every day, that’s good. A daily work crowd is a good one for steady average, but I’ve not found it a ball of fire. Maybe go to your other site one day a week or find a place to pack up and go to after lunch to extend your day. It’s not the elusive four-hour day I plan to get to, but it allows me to stay at my lunch spot as it grows. I plan to set up at a store in the evenings for Christmas shopping season. I’ve found my town to be tough. Street vendors are not a priority here….yet.
You are always going to have “those” days.
Welcome to the forum, you will look back at this some day and laugh, right now it’s hard to that through the tears. This is a real hard business, it takes time. You are getting positive comments from your customers, your serving a good product, hang in there you will do fine…..BillyB
Is this working????
