You really do need to check out Bang Bang when you get a chance. And it can stay our little secret. After all, what happens in the pie shop, stays in the pie shop!
An easy one for me…no hesitation at all…I’ll take – BOTH, and often do as Bang Bang and Hoosier Mama’s city location are fairly close together and you can make both stops easily! To break it up, try Fatso’s Last Stand which is midway and get the secret menu shrimp po boy along with a double fatso! You’ll save on gas with these three easy to run together stops!
I should have seen this response coming. Both of them are terrific, but I have been a little more impressed by Hoosier Mama so far. Of course, I have only been to Bang Bang twice, so maybe I need to do a little more research![:p]
Watch it Danny….you’ll be needing one of my shirts soon 🙂
Great photo’s and good write up…makes me want to visit the shoppe!!

and if you ate all those pies in one sitting, then you definitely have the spirit of Chi Town Diner with you.
Great photos!

You Chicagoans are very lucky to have two such excellent pie shops. That is a great looking cherry pie!
I haven’t had a chance to go to Bang Bang. I’ll probably try it at some point, but I’m afraid I’ll feel like I’m cheating on Mama’s!
[:X] [:X] [:X] !!!!!
Nice photos Danny. That Boston Cream Pie looks (delightfully) deadly! And as I’ve stated publicly in the past, Key Lime Pie is the single best dessert anywhere. When made right, it is the perfect blend of sweet, tart, slightly bitter, with just enough richness to satisfy without bloating. Bang Bang’s version looks wonderful.

We had a semi-impromptu get together Friday with fellow Contingent members X1 and quijote, along with his partner John. They crossed the Cheddar Curtain to spend the day in Chicago. One of their stops was at Chicago’s other outstanding pie destination, http://www.hoosiermamapie.com Hoosier Mama. As we were unable to join them for this early stop, they were kind enough to pick us up a couple of pieces for later.

A very dense hunk of Chocolate Chess Pie was excellent, but the real standout was the Lemon Pie with Fresh Blueberries. A lovely balance of sweet with just a hint of refreshing tartness, all topped off with plump sweet blueberries. What a combination! Many thanks to Christin, Jon, and John for picking those up for us.

I haven’t had a chance to get to the Bang Bang Pie shop, but I am a regular at Hoosier Mama, which is fantastic. Since she (Paula Haney) won’t use anything but fresh cherries for her cherry pie, it’s been a long time coming, but last week I got my first one from her.
A great cherry pie
Our first slices
Today I had my first slice of her blueberry pie, which was also fantastic. But I forgot to take a picture. I thought about getting a whole pie, but I didn’t want to eat the whole pie, which I probably would have.
Update: I went back to Hoosier Mama’s for a slice of blueberry pie today and took a picture. It was fantastic.
They actually gave me the wrong pie at first, her cherry berry pie, which is sweet cherries, blueberries and strawberries. Also fantastic.
Those are some gorgeous pie photos my friend! Which has been your favorite? How long have the lines been? My favorite items so far have been the honey pie and the smoked collard greens, which you can see as part of ChiTown Diner’s terrific http://www.roadfood.com/Restaurant/Overview/8342/bang-bang-pie-shop review.
I think I might be able to force down some of that Grasshopper pie. And maybe even some of that obviously misnamed (but accurate) Boston cream pie. Oh, and maybe even that ham biscuit. Nice stuff Danny.

Hello,
The Bang Bang Pie Shop is quickly becoming my favorite sweet tooth destination in Chicago. Here are my photos from a few of my visits there. Enjoy.

The ham biscuit comes with an egg and a pickle. This was delicious. The actual biscuit would be good with jam as well.

I will probably keep updating this thread as I eat more of their pies. They add different pies to the menu every couple of weeks depending on what fruit is in season at the time. A big thanks to whoever discoverd this little gem (I think it was the ChiTownDiner).

I am rather curious about something…..
Now that http://www.roadfood.com/Restaurant/Overview/8502/hoosier-mama-pie-company Hoosier Mama is reviewed here on Roadfood thanks to an excellent write-up by David Sanders (he reviewed the Evanston location), both http://www.roadfood.com/Restaurant/Overview/8342/bang-bang-pie-shop Bang Bang Pie Shop and Hoosier Mama are officially reviewed here on the site. Which place do Chicagoans (and pie enthusiasts like myself) like better?
Perhaps we could share a table…
