Does no one eat wet burritos? I mean yeah, I enjoy dry burritos and have often eaten them (especially in the car), but I would far rather sit down to a plate of sloppy, cheesy, saucy deliciousness.

    Sit Down – Wet

Stand up or in the car – Dry

    Either way – GOOD

Undoubtedly! I just found it funny that nowhere in the original article nor in any of the comments had it been mentioned. All the debate about the proper way to eat one with your hands, and what I’m picturing in my head is what eruby posted. Like I said, I like dry burritos as well, but prefer wet. When I get them to go from my local Mexican drive-thru, they come in a styrofoam container wrapped in plastic and inside a paper bag, with a warning to hold them flat.

[lol] I’m sorry… Wikipedia? Not exactly a stellar source of information. However, even your quote there calls it “enchilada style” with sauce “similar to enchilada sauce” without saying it’s the same thing as an enchilada.

Let’s stick with Wikipedia, because it’s easy.

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enchilada https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enchilada

An enchilada (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA_for_English /[nt{lQdY/, Spanish: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Help:IPA_for_Spanish [entilaa]) is a https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corn_tortilla corn tortilla rolled around a filling and covered with a https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chili_pepper chili pepper sauce.

Internet arguments about semantics are fun!

That’s an enchilada, regardless of tortilla type and filling.

    From Wiki…..
Smothered burrito
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Diana%27s_wet_burrito.jpg

    Wet burrito style

A smothered (often called “wet” or https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enchilada enchilada style) burrito is smothered with a red https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chili_sauce chili sauce similar to enchilada sauce with melted shredded cheese on top. It is usually eaten off a plate with a fork and knife, rather than hand held.

Toucan Taco (formerly Tippy’s) in Laurel, MD has a delicious ‘sunken’ burrito that cannot be eaten with your hands (unless your a Visigoth [:)]).

Haven’t had a wet burrito in a long time.  I’ve had them when I order a burrito in a nicer, sit down restaurant but when I get them to go they need to be dry.

Love them with a good New Mexican red sauce.

    That’s not a burrito, it’s an enchilada.

Nope. Among other differences enchiladas are usually made with corn tortillas while burritos are made with flour tortillas. Additionally, of course, enchiladas are baked.

Exactly. Enchiladas are also smaller, and typically have different fillings. Also, the sauce is different, at least in a good restaurant. The only difference between a dry burrito and a wet burrito is the addition of sauce and usually cheese on top, and it’s served on a plate instead of wrapped in foil or paper. And, you know, you can’t eat it with your hands unless you want a heck of a mess. [;)]

If you can master eating one without dripping it all over yourself you qualify as a Master Burrito Maven.

If you have to think of how you eat a burrito you probably have to much time on your hands and eat a lot of meals alone.

I have found that the  best way to eat a burrito is to drive up to the McDonald’s window and order one, then pull into a parking space, unwrap the burrito and take a bite. Then I like to drive over to the trash barrel and toss what’s left into the barrel before driving away.

(Except, in Chicago last Spring while there for the crawl I discovered a McDonald’s that offered carnitas breakfast burritos that were actually pretty darned good.)
