Whether the current coconut TastyKakes match my memories of the late 60s I can’t say (yet, as I haven’t had a chance to order a case). But at least they still exist!
My husband and I were at Target the other day, and lo and behold there was a Hostess pie display-we were absolutely giddy!!!!!We did not throw caution to the wind, however-reading the nutrition facts made us decide not to indulge[:(]I am on a weight restricted diet and that pie would have been my whole day , plus!!!!!!!
A Hostess cherry pie and a Pepsi were the frequent breakfast of my friend and I on the way to school in the morning (except she got the apple pie). I’m sure the teachers did not enjoy our sugar buzz! [;)]
Does Tastykake have a Coconut creme pie? That would be something to try. When I was younger, our local grocery store used to carry a line of pies that were called Mrs. McMillan’s lunchbox pies and they had all different kinds of flavors including coconut creme. When my mom would buy a bunch my brother and I would fight over who got the coconut creme ones when I realized how good they were.
As nice as Hostess pies are, they still pale in comparison to TastyKakes. And the surrounding paper tray means TastyKakes have a better chance of surviving intact. Just try finding a non-cracked Hostess pie.
Also, the coconut TatsyKake– BLISS!
If you would send me the money I have access to Cherry, Blueberry, Lemon, Apple, and sometimes peach and strawberry although I haven’t seen the last two lately, but I will be going to the wholesale store tomorrow and could look to see if they have different flavors. Let me know.
We used to get Hostess Pies all the way up here where I live in Yellowknife, Canada (waaaayyyy up in the arctic) but the gas station that carried them could only get like 3 at a time when they were available which was every few months. It was impossible to get there before some jerk bought them all.
When i was a kid living in Abbotsford BC my mom used to get them for my school lunches in Sumas just over the border. I loooooved them! Peach and cherry were my favorites.
Anyways i went searching for another place to buy them online and found http://www.hometown-treats.com/products/hostess_fruit_pies.html. They carry Cherry, Apple, Chocolate and Pudding (i thought pudding and chocolate were the same thing but they are different options??). They are 99 cents each. I think I might order some but I wish they had more of a flavour selection.
If anyone out there is willing to pick me up a variety of flavours of pies (including cherry and hopefully peach) please email me at christinimartini [@] hotmail.com
I totally live in the middle of nowhere, not close to any cities, so I really have no other way to get some pies in my belly. I would be totally greatful.
To order the Hostess fruit pies freshchocodiles.com website is the best site to order from. In response to the person who wanted the Hostess pudding pies, a couple of weeks ago I saw the Hostess Chocolate pudding pies at our local grocery store. I wish they would reintroduce the vanilla pudding pies. Does anyone remember when they had them with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on the wrapper?
Man now I want one of those Hostees Pudding Pies, MMMMMMmmmmmm, nothing like deep fried dough filled with chocolate and covered with Glaze.
I love these pies. favorite sweet junk food growing up as a kid, even AFTER I discovered they were being made with animal fat.
Peach, then cherry and berry were my favorites. Never really got into the pudding flavors.
Still grab one a couple times a year; although I shouldn’t….
I too am a H-U-G-E fan of the Hostess / Dolly Madison / Drake’s fruit pies! Living in Toronto has been difficult since the Hostess line up here is limited pretty much to Twinkies, Cupcakes and the like. Hearty pies just don’t make it up here.
Anyways, I’m a sleuth with a sweet tooth and have found a way to import Drake’s Apple Pies (same manufacturer as Hostess / Dolly Madison – Interstate Bakeries). If there is anyone else in Canada who would like to get their hands on some, shoot me an email at [email protected]
Anyone know if you can buy these anywhere online? In the Northeast it seems we only have Cherry, Apple and Lemon.
I might be interested in a cross-country swap. We have Hostess, Drakes and Tastykakes here in the northeast. What we do NOT have is Mrs. Baird’s. I am seriously jonesing for some Mrs. Baird’s cherry pies, and am willing to do a straight trade with someone in Texas: a dozen Mrs. Baird’s cherry pies for an equivalent number of the treat of your choice.
[:)]I just found this forum and have been looking for the Hostess blackberry pies for a long time. My mom and I love them and haven’t seen them in years. If anyone knows where I could buy them (I live in Michigan) I would really, really appreciate it. If anyone wants to do a swap I can buy cherry, blueberry, lemon, apple, peach(sometimes), and strawberry (sometimes). Thanks
