There is something about the hospital smell that is a total turn off for me. That is really strange because I spent the first year of my career as a laboratory med tech in 1962 and I ate in the hospital cafeteria every day that I worked.

Last July i suffered—and SURVIVED!!!-an Abdominal Aortic Anurism–i was VERY close to death and spent about a month in a hospital–when they finally gave me food i was amazed!—Here i was in heart ward and what did they serve???–fried food with lots of white gravy–over-cooked vegies, white bread and get this–TWO DESSERTS!!–for a guy whose doctors had just told to lose weight or DIE!!! I have a good friend that works with a group here called the Kerr Foundation–they focus on sustainable agriculture and work on hunger and nutrition problems—they have been very successfull with a "Farm to School" program that puts local farmers and schools together to put REAL food in the schools and get McD’s catering OUT!–I was so amazed that the best tasting and best nutrition i got in a HEART WARD was ORANGE JELLO!!!-that i have since got together with her and they are now working on a Farm To Hospital program!!! BOUT TIME!!!——-P.S—got a good friend that is a doctor–she was our neighbor when my wife was in grad school and she was in Med School–she told me that in all the years of education that they required of her –she got ONE 45 min lecture on nutrition!!!!
Meanwhile, in Bend, Oregon, the cafe in the lobby at St. Charles Hospital, is one of the best places in town.

Judi spent six months in M D Anderson in Houston. They are one of the top cancer hospitals in America but their food delivered to the room sucks. Perhaps they cannot do any better due to having to deliver to the room but it was not good.

I use the term "food" lightly here!
My Dad recently had a stroke (he’s home and doing very well now)and although some of the food was almost appetizing and actually tasty. ie: beeftips in gravy served over rice~ pan seared fish filet with veg medley~ Some of the dishes were just down right nasty! 3 consecutive nights he had in order~~ ground roast turkey breast~~ ground roast breast of chicken~~~ ground roasted pork shoulder~~ not only did it LOOK unappealing the smell was nauseating..
Luckily dads diet was not restricted and we could take him home cooked meals or at least decent take-out!
