Not familiar with the DC area … but I would suggest making sure to try and find a place that makes their gyros meat in the traditional way on a rotating spit (rather than baked in an oven like a meatloaf).
A big slab of gyros meat slowly turns in front of a heating element and has the strips of meat cut off by the chef with a long slicing knife gradually as the outermost meat browns. The typical commercial set-up for restaurants is an upright (vertical) spit like this.
Calling around to some Greek restaurants should find one that has it.
Looks great, quite a bit of work but still I might have to try it.
I can’t say that I’ve ever had a gyro but have always wanted to try one.
Anyone know where I might get a good one in the DC area, especially No Va area?
That looks great. I love Gyros (and worked in a greek restaurant a long time ago).
Lamb is one of my favorites.
Its on my list I haven’t had gyros on the spit since I moved away from Chicago 20 years ago…
Looks great. Nice change of pace for grilling.
This looks interesting.
