I received an ‘urgent email’ yesterday:
There was a catastrophic fire at their shipping facility in Tyler on the 6th, after hours. Their ability to provide turkeys this year was wiped out – none to ship, none to pick up. They’ve already started rebuilding they say. And are sending out refunds for unfulfilled orders.
I know there’s been some mention of them here in the past. I first learned of them from an awesome post by Scrumptious Chef on Chowhound years ago. I must admit, I tried one once and found them over-smoked to my taste so I’ve never ordered again. But to each his own.
Reminds me of the Dietz and Watson warehouse fire in Delanco, NJ back in 2013. The public health officials in Tyler will have to get involved to remove the remains of the turkeys to prevent disease and a stench from forming in the neighborhood of the plant.
