CTD – Thanks. That’s also VD weekend in 2014.
The Travelin Man
I uploaded a few pictures to my https://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.10151328049439315.473487.503099314&type=1&l=1fd2a7ab2d Facebook account. You can check them out, if you like.
The highlight of my photos may be this one that welcomed me to Mississippi.
Say it ain’t so! You will be missed. I had looked forward to breaking a crab leg with you!
All the best for your father. I will suck a crawfish head in your honor.
I would love to be able to make this year’s event, however I will be headed to Nashville this weekend for an extended stay. My father is going in to have Carotid Artery Replacement Surgery on the 5th. So i will be in and around Nashville from Feb 3 to ????.
This year’s gathering seems to be HUGE! I hate that I will miss seeing old friends and old friends/new faces during this weekend in the lovely Gulf Coast.
If you make Pensacola Mexico beach is only another 2 hours and Killer Seafood. 🙂 Dad sold his house there so no more Killer Seafood for me for a while. It is also the Gumbo Contest on the Beach, Gumbo starts at 11am (Central Time) and goes until the Gumbo runs out about 1:30 to 2:00.
Just a reminder for all the east coasters headed that way Mobile is Central Time so adjust accordingly…. Hell Mobile and the Gulf Coast is own their own time zone where it is usually always Beer Thirty or Quarter past the Oyster.
Have Fun My Friends!
Now that you have your plane ticket could you get us all a really good hotel rate like you did in Nashville??? [:D]
I’m a strong aye! for Jax / St. Augustine. I’ve only driven through Jacksonville, but I’ve been to St. Augustine a few times… a beautiful, pedestrian friendly town.
Mr. Hoffman, the “culanarily curious Bangladeshi” will be upset if you don’t make it to Glee Club lol. But seriously, you and your wife should definitely consider attending this event. You are the best writer on this forum and a Roadfood vet, so you need to be there.
We need to decide soon because airfare will only get pricier as the event date gets closer. I’d like to purchase my tickets soon.
P.S. You think I can hire Ed Sails to do all my food photography at Glee Club? I’d like to leave my camera at home and have a professional take photos of my meals [:D]
Thanks for the compliment! I do wish I could go. For me, airfare has already gone up!
It’s always been President’s Weekend.
I didn’t see any cheese grits at Wintzell’s!! Guess I was too busy eating those 3 dz. oysters on the half-shell. [:p]
We get them a lot in SoCal too. I think it’s BP’s penance for the Deep Horizon Fiasco.
Annie for some reason the Alabama Tourist Bureau spends a lot of money running “See Alabama” commercials on the Louisville TV stations almost nightly…lots of White Sandy beaches and Roadfood style photo scenes !! 18 days…
Yes since the fiasco with BP they have been advertising the heck out of the Gulf Coast trying to get the people back. However even before that the “Forgotten Coast” always heavily advertised along the I-65 and I-10 Corridor. It is a straight shot from Chi Town To Mobile on 65.
I always thought it was funny driving around in Indianapolis and see a billboard for The El Gov. Hotel in Mexico Beach. It looked out of place in INDY, but then after driving I-65 all those years I realized why they spent their $$$$ along the corridor.
Has a date been set yet for the 2014 meeting?
Al–wish i could–but–got my daughters wedding in a few months—on Martha’s Vineyard–and that trip and the ensuing expenses, are soaking up ALL the budget this yr!—NEXT yr for sure–Janie is retiring and we will be freed up to travel a lot! You folks all have a good one—and take lots of pictures!
That’s too bad that the Tiny Diny closed down.
That is a shame. I found a photo of the old menu on urbanspoon.. looks like the place would have been perfect..
If we go early to the coffee cup on Saturday, I found the perfect coffeehouse in Pensacola for me to get a decent cup of coffee.. I love the name of the place
If the Jacksonville area is so great why does the St. Johns keep flowing out to sea?
That’s too bad that the Tiny Diny closed down.
This in Feb. and I’m now making plans for NOLA in March. Memphis end of May, Nashville in July. Ohh my poor gas bill.
Looking forward to seeing y’all.
I agree, you can’t get more southern than Country Ham (although I always thought that was more of a mid south thing – Kentucky, Virginia, Tennessee)
Considering the seafood and Cajun influence, I was actually captivated by the Cajun Omelet at Spot of Tea they open early too at 7am-
Either way, I’m sure we can decide on a place even if its not till Saturday evening – I was thinking the best bet was to ask Bill at the Brick Pit for suggestions.
