As soon as my wife saw it, she had to have Frank’s Twisted Diner Bread. She found the recipe here:
http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/recipes/recipe/0,,FOOD_9936_36896,00.html
The loaf was money. And very, very huge.
Next time, we’ll read the fine print on the recipe.

Apparently, this is a recipe for two loaves. Two very good loaves. It is very similar to the bread in the flower pot at Spinnaker’s.
I actually found out about this place from a friend who also lives here in Kenosha before the TV shows started doing stories about Franks Diner.
I was so intrigued with Frank’s garbage plate on that episode, I just had to have one. Unfortuately, that’s a minimum 11-hour drive for me.
I persuaded Big Jake at Christie’s Corner Cafe in East Ridge, Tennessee to make one and it rocks! It was about $6.00 and ran the full length of an oval serving platter. For those of you in the mid-South:

That was Off the Hook!
a freind and i went to frank’s for our first visit last sunday and we had a great experience.
the place is jam packed shoulder to shoulder at 10:30 a.m. and the wait was about 25 min.for the stools at the counter[they have a few small tables but we opted for the first thing availiable]and it went by qickly.you order while you wait to expedite things and you are asked you name at that time.the easy going but hungry crowd waiting patiently along with us were fun and jovial making the time go by fast[most seemed like regulars with a few fist-timers like us].
the staff were really incredible considering the tight space and the amount of work they do.both owners were there working feverishly and turning out hundreds of plates of delicious hot breakfasts.i’m appreciative of the skill and concentration that goes into preparing these made to order dishes i don’t know how they keep from having a meltdown[V].
to start i had a half order[one bisquit split in two]of piping hot[very important]bisquits and gravy, the gravy had he perfect consistancy and subtle peppery finnish, savory and comforting for sure.
my freind had a half of a chorizo garbage plate and i had a ham and cheddar omlette with the house toast[btw, the melted cheddar oozed out of the omlette like cheesey hot lava[:p]] both were great.not sure where they are sourcing this bread from or if they make it in house but it was very, very good!
after paying at the counter[and leaving a nice tip for the hardworking staff[:X]]we left to make space for others[there were still hungry people waiting in the cue] and were thanked by name by the owners[nice touch].we departed into the freezing winter weather completely sated and happy.
i hope there will always be special, unique, charming and most of all human places like this in our drive through-window,fast food weary world and applaud them for what they do.[8D]
i look forward to a return visit.[:D]

Here were my comments on this diner

As for Franks’ Diner, they are not known for their service but for their food. Seat yourself when you get there, or if you have to wait for a seat place your order in advance (esp. if you want a garbage plate they take a while to cook due to the large volume of potatos) while your wait for a table or stool.
They have a good chilli that they use on their omlets that my wife gets when ever we go there and she loves it. I get the garbage plate with sausage and american cheese in it. The american cheese sweetens it up a bit and takes away some of the bitterness of the greenbell peppers.
The garbage plate in general you will find has a lot of hash brown potatos in it no matter where you get that dish (no the garbage plate did not originate in kenosha). There are several diners around the country that offer a garbage plate. I’m not sure where it orginated but not in Kenosha.
Ruffalo’s has a really nice sweet sauce for its pizza that I love.

Yes, you are correct they do tend to take up a lot of space and as I said in my first post, they are not known for their service but rather their food.
Franks is not a place I recommend someone go to if they desire fast service or have limited time. And thats what I tell people when I tell them about Franks, don’t expect fast service but expect a good serving and good food though.

Sorry to tangent the track a bit. But The Magna was the best ride I ever owned. That’s an 83 and i road it twice from Socal to Indiana and back..and uncounted times thru the Utah parks and Southwestern desert area. It was great to do the Alton brown style roadtrips..usually alone, but it was still great. I miss those rides alot.
Riding thru a small town, say Kingman AZ, you get the odors of cooking food before you see the cafe’s and diners. A great way to find Roadfood!
I’ve got an 82 Magna that I still ride all summer.
Yes, It is![:I]

To pay at Frank’s, walk to the counter, tell them what you ordered, and they’ll ring it up. In 27 years, I’ve never seen a check.
If you need more coffee, go up to the counter and get some.
Frank’s is incrdible, even with the twenty minute waits (on my best day alone). My latest Frank’s breakfast was a garbage plate with chorizo and blue cheese, home made bread (I’m not totally eclectic) and PEANUT BUTTER!!!!! Any kitchenette can score points by offering me peanut butter with my toast. I was good until about 4 P.M. even though I skipped lunch.

I wish I’d known that. It might’ve made all the difference.
I may have to give them another go. My stepfather said because the Kenosha News pays their carriers a block away, the thing to do with your paper route money was to go get a treat at Frank’s.

I went to Frank’s for lunch yesterday at 12:30. It was at least an hour wait. It’s best to get there at 6:00am in the morning for breakfast during the week. Frank’s was also on WGN Channel 9 News on July 24th. Aside from a double cheeseburger at Kewpee’s in Racine, Frank’s is my favorite Wisconsin breakfast. The Garbage Plate rules and you can wash it down with a Bloody Mary. http://www.franksdinerkenosha.com
Alton Brown’s Motorcycle tour is organized to appear really "off-the-cuff" in it’s presentation. It looks like he includes some negative stuff and ‘goofs’ as well as the "real finds". Of the roadfood tour type of shows I think I like his ‘style and demeanor’ the best of the group.[8D] He does have a difficult time creating the image of the hard-riding, scruffy Biker Gang though!![;)][;)] (Kinda Like a Skinny version of me on the Bike!!)[:I] Yeah, That’s me on my Honda Magna V65
Taken in the early 90’s.
