If any Roadfooders are anywhere near Northeast Tennessee this Thursday evening, November 3, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., please come by the B. Carroll Reece Museum on the East Tennessee State University campus in Johnson City. We’re holding an opening reception for our exhibit, "Lens on the Larder: The Foodways of Southern Appalachia in Focus." It’s an exhibit of photographs by Larry Smith of ETSU, accompanied by oral history segments I’ve gathered from practitioners in Southern Appalachia. Allan Benton will be on hand to serve samples of his country ham, and we’ll have other regional products to taste as well, including dried apple stack cake and sorghum syrup. The exhibit will be up through December 21.
