And after that, they’ll market the oozing ears.
So the suits are Mr. and Ms./Mrs. Roboto’s…I can see that.
The purpose of the suits is to take someone else’s idea and drive it into the ground until it runs out the viewing public’s ears in a gelatinous ooze of melted gray matter.
They don’t innovate. Other people innovate. The suits copy.

I can’t believe anyone still tunes in. You all have a lot of snow back east?Having a bad day? Relax, pop a cork. It’s New Year’s Eve. Tomorrow is not just a brand new day; it’s a brand new year. Cheers.
Not a bad day. It’s finally sunny in the Mountains[:D]
I just don’t want to watch these same old folks anymore, and the new crop of young jerks and jerkettes doesn’t do it for me either. I’m exicited Sara’s coming back to public TV. I think their canning her was when I gave up on the FN.[;)]
I agree that they bore me anymore. It’s just the same old stuff over and over and over again. Goodness, with the competition blooming the way it has been you’d think the suits would come up with a better idea. You’d think… .

I have to say, I saw her book in the B&N and I was all ready to snot about it, and then I read an article about it and was impressed. I still don’t want to watch her show but I’m going to stop calling her the antichrist. I mean, I’m sure not even Ray-Ray is the antichrist. I love me some ladies with moxie.
brickie I also loved the link to the Tony Bourdain q&a–thank you!
Sandra Lee used to drive me nuts. Until last night. I saw her on "Chefography," (I missed the one just before it which was about Rachael Ray), and have gained a newfound respect for her. That woman’s got moxie, intelligence and a true love and talent for what she does. Impressive.
I liked Emeril, but found that the Emeril Live format was getting dull and uninteresting. Too much diversion into so-called "entertainment" and not good cooking. I’m certain that they will find another good format for him, though.
Alton Brown is usually very good, but I didn’t particularly like the "Asphalt" series. But the statement above that "Alton is an idiot" must have come from one! I generally find Alton’s shows and his knowledge of cooking to be excellent.
"Guy" on Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives needs to be more honest on his assessments of all the foods he tries at the various places he visits. Someone hit it right on the mark when they said that he always says great things about the food he eats, which when you know about some of the places he visited, you know he is not telling the truth.
Dislike Rachael Ray immensely. Not many other people’s name will make my blood boil like hers. EVOO to you all.
I used to like Paula Deen, but am getting turned off at her increasingly "gitty" (albeit goofy) TV personality. Y’all hear that?
Overall, I think the Food Network has gone downhill an awful lot. Watch the Travel Channel and other up and coming shows on other networks. FN is way past its prime.
I love Alton Brown. He explains things very well and he’s much less prissy than David Rosengarden (Taste). FN always has at least one show that spotlights what a dish should be and should not be. Anybody remember How to Boil Water? Glad that show is gone!
Giada brings a certain sex appeal to food. She was brought on for that reason. There are certain phrases she uses in every episode for that purpose. "Creamy in my mouth" is just one of them. It’s the same reason Rachel Ray’s shows always showed her behind wearing skin-tight pants. It’s television, folks. There has to be something sexual or the executives wouldn’t think they are reaching everybody.
Anthony Bourdain is wonderful but so combative at times that I can’t help but feel as if he is talking down directly to me. Sure, he’s professional and educated and trained in what good food is and is not, but why does he have talk down to the audience? I will say that he shows great respect for other cultures and when he travels, he doesn’t look at them like the usual American tourist. In my travels, I would find myself constantly horrified by the cliche "Stupid American Tourist" and he is fantastic at dispelling that stereotype.
I have found that FN’s shows about what other folks are cooking and different restaurants across the nation to be the best.

Feasting on Asphalt. Diners & Dives. Good Eats. Imagining what it would be like to be Giada’s "kept man".[}:)]
Food Nation – I love on-the-road food shows; learn a lot about regional specialties.
BBQ with Bobby Flay – Road trips to BBQ joints. Yay!
Boy Meets Grill – Innovative grilling. (I live to grill)
Throwdown – Lots of regional/local favorites; fun format.
Dives, Diners & Drive-ins – Can you spell road food?
Guy’s Big Bites – Unabashedly hearty food.
Good Eats – Not a gourmet cook, but expert food science.
Ming’s Quest – Interesting survey of North American (mostly) meat, fish and fowl.
