You’re a good man Seamus!!
My first was Sepultura, Pantera and Biohazard in 94. My algebra teacher took us. Last one was Slayer in June 2011.
My favorites were the first one of course, AC/DC in 96, Kiss in 97, Iron Maiden in 04, Ozzfest 97 and 98.
I used to play in bands, so we were at a ton of shows.
First was Frijid Pink with Bob Seger at a fair in Livonia Michigan. The last was Willie, John Mellancamp, and Bob Dylan. Frijid Pinks version of House of the Rising Sun is still the best. Listening to Mississippi John Hurt I’ll fly away right now.
First concert was Three Dog Night March 1972, followed by Humble Pie ( with Stave Marriott, vocals and Peter Frampton, guitar) in May 1972.
Last concert was October last year, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass. Highlights of last year were Ruthie Foster, David Bromberg, sarah Elizabeth Campbell, Kris Kristoffersen & Merle Haggard, Over The Rhine, John Prine, Emmylou Harris, Robert Plant, Del McCoury & Preservbation Hall Jazz band.
My first was Ted Nugent in the 70’s.And Frank Zappa, and Doobie Brothers, and Steven Stills-all courtesy of Summerfest-free concerts-first come, first serve.Beer was 50 cents. My last was Robert Plant and the last of the Led Zepplin boys in the 90’s. Excellent show- no beer this time-just great music!
<< It might have been The Young Rascals at Iona College>>
Holy Crap, I was at that one too! Had a friend that went to Iona and I went up for a weekend.
My first concerts were the Murray the K Holiday Shows at the Brooklyn Fox. You couldn’t beat it, 10 or 12 acts: The Ronnettes, Ben E King, Jay & the Americans, Jan & Dean, The Crystals and on and on. Jackie Wilson almost always closed the show, all for only $2. This was in 1963/4. Great memories.
Most recent was the Girl Group Reunion Spectacular at Lincoln Center last summer. Terrific show, many many Girl groups from the 1960’s, outdoors on a beautiful summer day, most of them sounded great. If you jump around You Tube there’s lots of footage from the show, but here’s a sample:
All the big southern rock bands in the early 70’s. Saw Lynyrd Skinner at a Gainesville, Fl rock festival before anyone knew who they were.
Last one I’m not a 100% sure but probably Alison Krauss a few years ago in Kingsport, Tn.
First- Springsteen in 1985 at the Greensboro Coliseum in North Carolina.
Last- Springsteen 2009 in Chicago.
First one was in 1987, Whitesnake and Great White. Left the place deaf.
I’m trying to remember my last one, I think it was Ronnie James Dio at a small club in Seattle in 2000. Well, it wasn’t a concert as much as it was a club gig, but come on, it was Dio. The last big one I went to was probably Pantera and Anthrax in 1997. I honestly don’t like going to concerts, so I haven’t been to many.
1st Chicago 1975
Last BB King
I saw Bob Seger and Frijid Pink at a Fair when I was really young. 1969 or 1970
I think the first one was The Statler Brothers at the Winnebago County (IL) Fair sometime in the ’70s, but that was a family outing. First one I went to without adult supervision was Willie Nelson at Alpine Valley (East Troy, WI) in 1981.
Most recent was Ingrid Michaelson here in Madison at the Overture Center in October, 2010, and we’re going to see her there again next month.
My first concerts in the early 60’s were at the Lambertville Music Circus in NJ where I saw Dave Brubeck and Maynard Ferguson. I don’t remember which was first. By 1966, Uncle Sam’s Air Force owned me, but I did get to the Newport Folk Festival that year. I remember little of that weekend. The first Rock Concert (not counting the numerous Phillipino cover bands in Saigon) was in the late 60’s when I saw Jefferson Airplane in New Orleans. Cat Mother and the All-night Newsboys opened. Again, I remember very little and that is somewhat “distorted” if you catch my drift. The 70’s were busy with many trips to the Spectrum in Philadelphia and I started getting tired of the whole scene. I attended my last just before moving to Florida in 1979 at Madison Square Garden. Bob Dylan w/Rolling Thunder. That may have been my favorite; Leon Russell ranks right up there, too. pb
First as a teen: Chuck Berry and Smokey Robinson & the Miracles, Orr auditorium, New Wilmington, PA, 1964.[8D]
First as adult: Janis Joplin @ U-Hall, U.VA. two weeks before her death.[:(]
Most recent: Rod Stewart, Copacabana Beach, RJ, 12/31/94 – 01/01/1995. Turns out that this concert still holds the Guiness Record for “world’s largest”.[:o)]
only to 10 mudhead.
RIP Peter Bergman 🙂
Always appreciate a good Firesign Theatre reference.
TThe first concert I ever saw was Elvis in 1956 in my mothers arms ( long story) .The first concert I actually remember was Roger Miller with my dad at Buck Lake Ranch in 65/66. The first concert sans parents was Steppenwolf in the late 60’s.
The last concert I saw was bluesman Ronnie Baker Brooks in Ft Wayne about 6 mos ago.
The 1st is a little fuzzy! It might have been The Young Rascals at Iona College. Then again, it could have been something at the Schaeffer Festival in Central Park or something at the Fillmore East. The last one was Sugarland at Orlando’s Amway Center.
