Cadbury Mini Eggs. Pure chocolate with a pastel sugar shell. You bite the shell open and suck the chocolate out. You can make them last a long time.
Red Swedish Fish
Reese's Peanut Butter Eggs
Any kind of coconut creme egg. Bonus points for dark chocolate.
And my favorie Easter treat is a toss up between pigus (ravioli dough filled with egg/cheese mixture, and baked) and Easter Cheese bread. You roll the dough out, sprinkle the cheese on, roll it up, and put into a loaf pan to bake. Swirly cheesy goodness.
BuddyRoadhouse… What a wonderful story and memory! Gulp!
Never cared for the Cadbury Eggs but loved the commercials when they first came out.
Those awful nasty cadbery eggs… So much sugar num num in the right mood
Back when they were little girls, Mrs. Roadhouse used to carefully craft Easter baskets for our daughters, abe_froeman and her younger, non-Roadfood sister. The candy was always appreciated, but the star of the basket for abe was a jar of pickled herring in cream sauce.
Our cured fish loving daughter was wacky for sardines as well. She used to watch my Dad as he’d eat a peasant lunch of tinned sardines and crackers, insisting that he name each salty fish before eating it. “This one is named Fred,” gulp, “This is Louise,” chomp, “Say hello and goodbye to Jimmy,” munch…until they’d devoured the entire can.
Given further thought, I guess it all ties in to Easter: Sardines on crackers is just another version of loaves and fishes. A single can feeding a Jewish grandfather and his Jewish/Catholic granddaughter suits the story nicely.
abe still loves the little fishies, but her tastes have evolved and refined. She now insists on a very specific Spanish brand of sardines and nothing less will do.
I don’t like the Cadbury eggs any more either (my taste buds are 73 years old), but I love those Lindor truffles. [:D]
Just out of curiosity, what is your favorite novelty Easter candy? I used to love the Cadbury Creme Eggs and, to a lesser degree, robin eggs but I haven’t really had Easter candy in ages (unless you count a bag of vaguely related Lindor truffles a few years back).
You “used to” love the Cadbury Creme eggs. Just today, my wife was complaining that they are not as good as they used to be, and that she doesn’t like them anymore. I wonder if both of you have just moved on in the taste dept, or if the formula has been changed to keep the price down? She prefers Lindor, now, too.
None! I don’t like candy and especially not chocolate or jelly beans or peeps. But I’m weird. My parents gave me a small Easter basket when I was little and they ate all the candy.
PEEPS!!! (they are better stale [:D])
Similar, but different — I love these:
In school we used to make these sugary colorful coconut nests with Robin eggs (yes, the pastel colored, hard shell, chocolate and malted milk eggs) – I haven’t had them in years but I can still taste them just thinking back to them!
Cadbury creme eggs are not good as they used to. It feels much more oily than before.
