I will always remember getting molassas popcorn balls for our neightbors and bags of fresh popcorn in little bags. Can’t remembers when I had a good popcorn ball except when I make them myself. Wish you could buy them now. I have found Act III brand at somestores but they are not that great. Oh why of why do our favorite things to eat have to change or disappear completely. I remember getting candy lipstick that was red and was wrapped in cellophane with gold. These are now on the discontinued candy list. I wish I could share these with my grandchildren.

They’re not my "favorite," but Halloween is about the only time of year I eat dum dums lolipops.
My favorite Halloween ritual was dumping the candy on the table and seperating out the types of candy. I always tried to trade my bubblegum for chocolate. And my sisters were usually okay with that.
Mellocreme pumpkins! I also love twix and marshmallow pumpkins covered in chocolate. My teeth hurt just thinking about it.
I loved the Hershey bars.
My favorite ritual is not candy-oriented, but it sort of applies here because I only do it once a year, at Halloween. We always buy a pumpkin for everyone in the family (so two big pumpkins and two "kid" pumpkins). I toast the pumpkin seeds, using my own recipe, and they are incredibly good. (the trick is to NOT wash the seeds)
Basically, I eat these until I’m pumpkin-seeded out, and then I do the whole over again the next Halloween.
As far as the candy goes, we definitely ration, but not on Halloween — that’s a "free" night. Happily, my kids like the crap candy, like gummy bears et al, so usually there’s plenty of chocolate for me.

M&M’s — line them all up and sort them by color. I did the same thing with Sweet Tarts. (And still do!) [:I]
4fish – Are you my previously unknown twin? I had to double-check to see if I had already answered this one.
Diner-Lover – my friend has a severe confiscation policy with her kids. It applies to all "candy holidays". They can eat as much as they want that day.[xx(] After they go to bed that night, the rest goes in the trash! Made my kids appreciate getting to keep theirs, even though it’s rationed like your mom (and mine) did.
My favorite current ritual is when the boys get back and go through their "haul" picking out my favorites to give to me(provided they have doubles, of course). I’m touched that they know which ones I like best. They do the same for Dad. Fortunately, we like different things.

My Mom would confiscate our candy and dole it out to us in small amounts for snack or dessert. I now know that she was going through our treats and picking out some goodies and stashing them away for herself. I could never fathom families where kids’ Moms let them eat whatever they got from trick or treating whenever they wanted (my husband’s Mom was like that). Made me jealous, and probably made me crave candy all the more since it wasn’t readily available to us kids!
A number of years ago I was handing out candy for Halloween, but because I’d been eating so many of the miniature candy bars throughout the day, I’d run out of candy early and had to buy a bag from our neighbor. [:I] I blame all of this on my Mom.
(Edited to add: My favorite candy was any kind of chocolate. In the late ’50’s-early 60’s when we went Trick-or-Treating, there was no such thing as miniature candy bars, so the full-sized bars were a treat. We also received home-made goodies like popcorn balls and cookies before anyone even thought of hiding harmful things in treats. [:(!] We also only went to homes we knew, so we didn’t get a ton of candy from neighborhoods as kids do now (and maybe did back then.) The fun was guessing who the costumed kids were who came to your house. One year my Mom got on a health kick and handed out apples and boxes of raisins for Halloween. I was afraid our house would get egged or toilet-papered!)
Ok, this topic is similar to "Favorite Candy," but with a bit of a twist. In celebration of Halloween, what was your favorite Halloween type candy, and did you have any particular ritual involving this candy? For example: My favorite Halloween candy was always the miniature Hershey bars… However, I would unwrap a whole bunch of them at a time, and then throw them all into a jar of JIF peanut butter, and eat them with a spoon.
Also, I would take the mini 3 Musketeers Bars, and throw them into the freezer, so that the next day, when I bit into them, they would shatter in my mouth. [:p]
Man, the stuff I did as a child!
