I like an onion bagel or "everything" bagel toasted with roast beef & swiss cheese.
Plain bagels I like breakfast style with eggs, ham or bacon.
Or just plain with PB & J or cream cheese & lox.
yes—i add capers to that![:D]
The Bagel Buffet in both Hackensack and Secaucus NJ serve great bagel sandwiches,my favorite is the Ham & egg on a toasted onion or everything bagel.
Sure wish they shipped UPS……..
The Bagelry in Potsdam, NY make a bagel sandwich called "The Gobble" which, if memory serves me correct, is choice of bagel (I always picked either onion, everything or poppy) toasted of you prefer – which I preferred, heaping pile of sliced turkey, melted provolone cheese, and thousand island dressing. It was stellar! Their garden cream cheese was also rockin’.
Plus -they deliver!!! A Coke, Gobble, and a brown bazoobie (gigantic chocolate chip cookie) made one of the best meals for under $10 including tax and tip.
Looks like I’m the bastard child at a bar mitzvah. [:D][;)]
Actually, I’ve been told by several of my Jewish pals that there will never be a prayer said for me at the Wailing Wall , because of my desecrations of the bagel.
Firstly, I am true to only partaking of boiled bagels. The others are truly just mediocre bread.
Secondly, I am fairly purist in flavors: plain, sesame, egg or if I have a wild hair, multigrain. None of the blueberry, cinnamon raisin and so on for this shiksa.
Now this is where my deviant perversions emerge
Toasted bagel with mayo, mustard, thinly chipped hamm off the bone and cheese du jour.
Toasted Bagel CLub style
Toasted Bagels with assortment of italian deli meats and cheeses, roasted red peppers
Toasted Bagels with a good peanut butter, some homemade grape jelly and bacon slices.
Toasted Bagel with a big juicy grilled burger, swiss cheese, green onions, lettuce, tomato , Duke’s mayo and a stone ground mustard.
My worst perversion of all: Creamed Dried Beef on a toasted bagel.
But let me assure you I make my kugels, strudels, latkes, kasha vareshnikes and matzoh balls in a very correct and authentic manner.
(I can see Hoffman and WJ shaking their heads in abject horror now)
McDonald’s steak, egg and cheese on a bagel was pretty good as well.
I LOVE a toasted bagel with Turkey and extra sharp cheddar.
I also like toasted bagel with ham, fried egg and black pepper.
I hate to admit this………but when McDonald’s was selling bagel sandwiches for breakfast,I really liked their ham and egg bagel it had a garlic butter on it and was very yummy!
Chicken salad is nice on a toasted bagel and my kids love bagel sandwiches too.
I’m actually not a fan of bagels for a sandwich. I like mine with either cream cheese or sometimes with PB. Although I might try it sometime with a slice of pork roll.
Some of the best bagel sandwiches I’ve tried were from Goldberg’s famous bagels in Hasbrouck Heights,NJ,whether it’s a taylor ham, bacon, sausage or just regular Boars’s Head ham,egg & cheese on a toasted onion or everything bagel are my favorite.
Now if funky eggs aren’t road food, I don’t know what is… LOL
I cannot say that it is my favorite but I have been staying at the Residence Inn by Marriott since September.
The have bagels every morning and they also have pork sausage. I toast my bagel and fill it will their funky eggs and it makes a decent sandwich.
I also make their waffles each morning. They are very good.
