Las Salsas is excellent. That’s where we went the day after Thanksgiving after 20 of us got basically kicked out of Las Consuelas. (We were told we couldn’t eat there unless each and every one of us ordered a dinner) The place was empty and we walked out.
Las Salsas served wonderful meals and margaritas.
El Gallito… not so much.
I tried to go there in July but there was a closed sign on the door.I wound up a block away at a place called Las Salsas that had excellent Mexican Seafood cocktails. I will go there in two weeks again and hope they are open so I can at least try them. Sad to see they are closing.
Last time Janet and I were at El Gallito was in Dec 2013. It was very good at that time.

LOL, I guess my experience is a little more current. Well I may just try El Gallito then just to see what the hype was about. I can always go to Las Salsas afterwards! Las Salsas has good drinks too.

One winter I worked literally right next door at a place called “Mad French Lady Gourmet Food”. I ate there a few times, thought it was good but not outstanding but they were always, always packed. Too bad they’re closing.
Although I was also never a fan of their food I hate to see Mom and Pop places swallowed up by big business.
Noooooooo! Janet and I love that place! We were last there in Dec 2013. It will be missed by locals and those who are 2500 +/- miles away!
Glenn
Absolutely if things haven’t changed since the last time I was there in February of 1984.
A big thanks to Roadfooder RVerRick for letting us know that http://www.roadfood.com/Restaurant/Overview/454/el-gallito El Gallito near Palm Springs will be closing at the end of April. Amid http://www.desertsun.com/story/news/2016/01/26/cathedral-city-mainstay-restaurant-el-gallito-close/79353832 rumors of a coming redevelopment of the downtown of Cathedral City, the Cantu family has decided to close the doors after 39 years in business.
Although I never thought the food was outstanding, it gets high marks for hospitality and friendly atmosphere. And they certainly have a very loyal following among locals. I will definitely miss the place.
Mar, sounds like you think i am better passing on El Gallito and just going back to Las Salsas?
