Seconds on the Tee Pee! President "W" Bush had dinner there with Jerry Coangelo a while back when he was in town.
welcome to the valley of the fun!
I reccommend Tee Pee, 42nd and Indian School in Phoenix. great margaritas, great mexican food and kitchy atmosphere. I don’t think they changed any decor since 1969! get a table in the bar it’s quieter.
AND in Tempe and Gilbert, Guedo’s Tacos. insanely good.
Venezia’s Pizza in tempe has great NY style Pizza.
I had a great meal at Old Chicago in Glendale recently. I tried to visit their location in Tempe but, that one is closed. Too bad, as that was my favorite location. I used to work there when I was in College. A.S.U. was and is a great place to party and have a great time! The fireworks this year were the best I have seen in A LONG TIME!
Here are a few suggestions for Phoenix, based on spending a few days there in March of 2006. We liked both lunch and dinner at Steve’s Greenhouse Grille which is located across the street from the Hyatt hotel. It was nice weather so we ate outside both times.
For lunch one day my wife had their onion straw burger and mango tea. I ordered a blackened burger. Both entrees came with fried potatoes that were really, really good. We got our fill on the burgers – they each weighed a half pound.
And for breakfast: we had standard breakfast fare but I have to remark again about their fried potatoes. (Yeah, I know, potatoes are usually so unremarkable.)
And for dinner one night, we at the Arriba Mexican Grille, a place that was highly rated on Dine.com. Good food, reasonable prices, good service, nice decor.
We went for a little walk one morning while looking for a place to eat breakfast. We ate at a place called the Matador Mexican Restaurant, not far from our hotel. We had a great breakfast. My wife ordered their Huevos Rancheros and I had Machaca & eggs burro. Both were very good. The service was fine also.
And during a lunch break at my convention, my wife and I got back together for lunch; again walking around the downtown area. We decided on a fast-food place called Brother s Pizza Express. We weren t starving so we split a calzone; each of us had plenty to eat. Pretty good (but not the best calzone we have ever had).
That’s it for me. Good eating.
DesertDog, when I get to Scottsdale again, we WILL be going to the TexAZ Grill!
I think Boyardee made a great suggestion in recommending TexAz. I used to go there with my father, he loved the chicken fried steak! (so did I)
I haven’t been back since he passed away, but been meaning to. Good roadfood!
As far as Durant’s goes, it is old school Phoenix. Lots of business deals that shaped the future of this town were struck there over 3 martini power lunches. I can’t vouch for the steak, as I have never had it, but it is a neat (and as of May 1st) un-smokey nostalgic look back.
A couple of posts were deleted for demonstrating poor manners. Courtesy is the guideline here folks. Keep it nice.[8)]
I second both of Porkchops recommendations
I live in PHX. IMHO Durants Sucks! It’s smokey, overpriced with average at best food. Living off it’s reputation. Since the old man’s been out of the business it’s gone downhill[:(][:(][:(][:(]
Like Desert Dog says, use the search function. Also every Thursday in the area papers they have weekender sections with plenty of places listed. Also there’s a free paper you can find most anywhere called New Times that has a ton of listings.[|)][:D][8D][8D]
I wonder if Guada la Harrys is still in Scottsdale, they had killer cheese crisps but that was way back.
Phoenix: GREAT CITY! I’ll b moving there as well in a year or so. 2 MUSTS & I’ve been EVERYWHERE!
1) Pizzeria Bianco: The Bianca Verde & Magarita pizzas rule here
2) Dick’s Hideaway’ 4 breakfast: Have the red cheese chili rellenos with 2 fried eggs on top
Air Conditioning, Swimming Pools and Sunscreen, learn it, live it, love it! [8D]
don’t forget those trips to San Diego or the Mountains.
