Mmmmmm Frito Pie, its to good to be just a Texas thing. The best bought one is at the Backstage Pub next to the 1894 Grand Opera House in Galveston. Its a plastic basket like you get fast food in with Fritos, homemade chili, grated cheese, onions, tomatoes and jalapenos.joe
Mmmm, don’t tell the folks in Santa Fe, NM that, they claim to have invented the Frito Pie at the lunch counter in the Woolworth’s on the Plaza. Served right out of the bag, chili and cheese plopped in and there are onions abd jalapenos on the counter to ad. The Woolworth’s is long gone but the store in it’s place still serve it and several restaurants around town serve variations.

While it saddens me to no longer see the 2nd Ave. deli on any list of great NY delis…for the areas I know, they seemed to get it pretty right. They did, however, just scratch the surface in most spots.
Tony,
In the back of my head, I’m still hoping that they’ll reopen elsewhere.
It is pretty acurate except The Salt Lick is in Driftwood, Tx. not in Buda about 15 miles east of Driftwood. Mmmmmm Frito Pie, its to good to be just a Texas thing. How old is this article? I thought Mitchell’s BBQ in Wilson, NC had closed for tax reasons.
