I’m sorry that I missed this one – I didn’t know about it! Since I live in Boston, it would have been fun to attend – especially to check out All-Star, which I’ve heard great things about from friends, but since I rarely get over to Inman, I haven’t visited yet.
Oh well, next time!
I suspect that our daughter picked Boston College as her school on the prospect of snagging a few meals at Durgin and it worked. We haven’t been there since she graduated and we almost made the trip from Long Island for last weekend meet up; sorry we didn’t make it. My first time there was over 50 years ago and it left quite an impression. I would have had a plate of oysters and the prime rib or the mixed grill. You don’t see mixed grill on many menus any more. Thanks everyone for the photos and reviews; I enjoyed them.
wmceaton, be sure to watch the forums carefully!!!!
We "advertised" both this one – and the earlier (December) North Shore clams get-together – pretty clearly. It would be great to attract even more locals… or near locals!
Please let me know the next time you guys are heading to Boston or Maine. I would love to come along for the ride…I live about 30 miles NW of Boston.
A trip up Route 1 from Boston to Portland, ME could be a good time.
Thank you to Ceci and Walt for posting all the excellent photos! It just made me realize again what a great time I had meeting everyone.
Oh man, like I wasn’t sorry already I couldn’t be there BEFORE I saw the pictures!! I’m starving just looking at the All-Star shots. Meatloaf, Cubans, Poutine, Baked beans, Sheperd’s Pie, Indian Pudding, oh my!!
Great reports, guys. I hope to make a roadfood excursion to New England in the near future. The only member of the Chips Family who will be going to Boston will be Sam who is taking a school trip to the East coast in May.

I go offline for all of one day and this one thread sent me 24 new post notices! Wow!
Thanks for all the props, espec BB. [:)]
I have a good group photo I’ll post and when someone (cough cough) starts a trip report thread, I will post some pics in that,
If anyone does start another thread on this Meet & Eat, please post a link to it here (remembering that I somehow missed
this planning thread not linked on the original one…).
Here are my pictures from the Allstar Sandwich Bar.

I must say that Buffetbuster and Ceci really know how to make every minute count! I may not be able to sleep tonight, thinking of Santarpio’s pizza.
Here are my pictures from Durgin Park. I am new to posting pictures (in fact these are my first) and my camera is new. Also if I have misspelled anyone’s name, I apologize.

On Sunday, Ceci was nice enough to pick me up in her car and we continued to do some Roadfooding. We headed for Santarpio’s Pizza in East Boston. Arriving a half hour before they opened, we killed time by checking out the little park across the street. When we went back at noon, there was a short line to get in the door, which is always a good sign. Here is our cheese, sausage and garlic pizza.
Really good pizza with a crunchy, almost burnt crust. And the garlic gave it a nice, little kick.
Ceci has a friend who owns an ice cream shop in Lexington, so we headed there. It is called Rancatore’s (Ceci, correct me if I am wrong) and this was really good ice cream and hot fudge. And her friend Joe, who was such a fun, great guy, was very generous with the free samples. I eventually settled on a scoop of the Grapenut Raisin, which was my favorite. I wish we had ice cream this good back home!
Here are the flavors available:
Sorry to let you down, but, no, I didn’t get the Chocolate Banana. And I am very ashamed! I did have a bite of Ceci’s, though.
My three scoops were Peppermint Stick, Chocolate Raspberry and Cinnamon.
That is very generous of you and I would love to have it! Now, does it actually say Box Factory University on it?[;)]
It doesn’t look good for Mobile. But, I am looking into coming to Florida in March for some spring training baseball.
Thanks for the photos from All Star Sandwich Bar. Those are much better than what I had.
It is a little odd having someone else posting pics of my food. Its almost like my meatloaf sandwich was cheating on me!
The Travelin Man
I don’t know if this "counts" for your collection, but I even snagged a t-shirt from the school for you (wasn’t from the bookstore – our office – but, it is a university shirt). Any chance of seeing you at the Glee Club Meeting in Mobile next month?
