… I also tend to get my marine batteries from Costco.  Very liberal return policy when they crap out…which they will, usually within a year.

If you want to learn how to get more than 1 year from your batteries then go to http://www.amplepower.com/primer Ample Power and look on the left hand side of the page.  You will see a link that says “View as PDF”.  click on that and download the PDF version of Ample Powers’s Primer.  Your battery should last you a lot longer.  I know folks who run their battery banks for 7 years before replacing.  I believe that both Sam’s Club and Costco are currently running the best prices on “golf cart” batteries.

On the other hand, if you only want to kill a battery as fast as you possibly can then you need to read http://www.amplepower.com/primer/kill/index.html Killing Batteries , I believe that Biker Jim must be using at least one of these methods (probably the over discharging).  Personally, I don’t have the $$ to waste killing batteries.

Yes.  The robot on Lost in Space would use a power pack.  When he malfunctioned or Dr. Smith was up to no good, the robot could be deactivated by removing his power pack.

Thanks. I really just want to power my xm. the battery died. I will check out dewalt.

Depending on which reciever you have and how close you park your vehicle to your cart, you should be able to recieve the XM signal from a good distance with a portable radio.   DD

I have a 12 volt deep cycle marine battery, mounted in the cart, that powers the pump for my handsink, my xm radio, lights when needed.  I use an AC inverter on 1 cart and on the other I just clipped the AC adapter off of the cord for the radio and spliced an extension cord onto it.  I wired in an outlet box and just plug the radio right into that.  Don’t wire it backwords or you will blow up your radio…jeez, how would I know that?  I plug a battery charger in every few days and it works great.  I also tend to get my marine batteries from Costco.  Very liberal return policy when they crap out…which they will, usually within a year.

Dewalt makes a nice battery operated radio, flash lights and all sorts of gizmos that run off their battery packs.

As for credit cards, opinions, prices, plans etc, etc… vary.  SHOP SHOP SHOP around before dedicating yourself.

Some folks in here have talked about http://www.squareup.com www.squareup.com and say they are cheap and reliable.  It basically works on certain cell phones like IPod and other touch screens.  Go to the site or google the site and you’ll get all sorts of videos and information.

I power a nice size raido with good base sound, two neon signs and if I wanted 20 or so floureance “white” light bulbs. A good power convert should be at least 1000 watts I have one that runs on 1,500 watts and power boost at 3000 watts. You can get them for about 100 dollars or less at a truck stop. I got mine for 80, from private seller. Your marine battery where I live, if people buy the wrong battery they return it and the store will sell it at half price. I got a 120 battery for 55.00 Get a smaller one if you can..they are a beast weighing in At least 50 to 60lbs..but will run your radio and lights for days before you need to recharge the battery. I leave mine in the truck and run a long extension cord. I love sitting out at night with my neon signs and wave to customers as they see me with lights for the cart, table and such..like having a mini festivals of lights.. get lots of slow downs. but that’s your best bet for 160 with tax included.
I like to Show off a little LOL but that is the best system for you..but don’t use car battery..by the way, the set up I mention is only about 40 dollars more than a dewalt..and a dewalt will not power multiple things for 30 hrs or more before the battery even reaches half a charge.
That’s my .02 cents. Hope it helps.

Are you talking about a battery with a 110VAC power inverter?

If so, they won’t last long – especially with a fan running. You’re much better off with a deep cycle boat battery and 12V appliances. RV stores carry 12V fans, and you can power a car XM radio setup from the battery. As far as taking credit cards goes, it sucks the profit out of your business. I was quoted a 50 cent transaction fee PLUS 2.5% of the sale. That’s why many merchants have a 20 dollar minimum credit/debit purchase. Screw the credit cards.

I use a DC 12 v battery for my water pump & another one to power my register, I get about a full week out of both of them. I highly recommend them. I buy the small ones and they run me about $40 a piece. I have a good charger too which helps with a speedy charge.

     Good luck !!!

Hey knife guy. Thanks. The last two weeks rocked. The fourt started slow, then put out about 200 dogs two hours before the fire works. This week has sucked. The heat is keeping them inside or swimming. Two kids got hurt Tueday in the Playground water park thingy and they shut it down the last  2 days. That hurts. I think they will have it up tomorrow. How is it going for you?I saw a lady at the craft fair a couple weeks ago,and she had a cool power pack. She used it for credit cards and the fan.I did not get the name of it,but she said it was 60 bucks and was a godsend. Stop by and get a dog if your up this way. Joe Dog

    Hey Joe;
XM and Credit card can be done with broadband plan. Both will operate from cell phone signal. A fan would probably require some battery (Marine) but I would tough it out since you are where you are. Summer will be over in another 5 weeks!
I plan on getting a broadband plan to play Pandora through a laptop and some Bose speakers. From what I see, the optimum plan is about $60 per month.
    How’s it going up thereA?
