A wonderful thing happened today. After more than 47 years of having to travel back to Connecticut for that most wonderful confection, a Drake’s Devil Dog, I discovered a display of those marvelous cream-filled Devils Food treats in a Meijer supermarket a couple of miles up the road in Columbus. The box is almost empty. Tomorrow I shall buy new boxes. Life is good again.
Looking at the https://www.drakescake.com/www/findlocation Drake’s Product Locator you should be able to find Devil Dogs at Save A Lot, Menards and Walmart as well.

Yeah, my local Meijer carries them, too. I guess they’ve had them for about the last 9-12 months or so.
Devil Dog Spelled backward is God Lived, chew on that.
I will, as soon as I get home and open one of the new boxes.

I always went for Drake’s chocolate cupcakes over the Devil Dogs…more cake, less crme.
… and mark your calendar Michael, April 27 is National Devil Dog Day.
Really? All I can say is that it’s about time.
Being a retired Marine, I need to buy a Devil Dog now and then. So far as I know, the chocolate covered ones only come in a box. As others have noted, they are good. Little Debbie has (or had) a reputation in the industry for pushing costs down, but never at the price of quality. I have seen the Little Debbie guy put them on the shelf, and I have then checked the date. The 6 week +- shelf life is far less than for the IMO, lower quality Hostess products.
It could be because I grew up with the actual Drake’s Devil Dogs, but years ago, someone I visited who knew I love Devil Dogs gave me a box of the Little Debbie knock-offs (Devil Creams) and I couldn’t get more than a bite or two down before setting it aside. I didn’t touch them again.
Hmmm…looks like the link didn’t work. Try this one instead (relevant content start about 40 seconds in):

Great! Many thanks. I loved Drakes Coffee Cakes as well. The crumb topping was the best!

…and the Devil dogs are now the original recipe…much more cream like it used to be. Look for the new packaging.
Have to check that out. The last time I tried a Devil Dog (about 3-4 years ago) they were a shadow of what they used to be, entirely the wrong type of cake used. (The original had a very dry & powdery texture that really NEEDED the cream to be delicious.)
From what I remember they were also messy to eat. If you didn’t move the wrapper down after each bite you would have the cake sticking to your fingers…..
Yes they were messy. Supposedly the new extra cream original recipe is messy again!
