Thanks to everyone for all the wonderful suggestions-we’ll try as many as possible! I’m ready to go and starving-
Earl of Sandwich
Take a short detour on the way from Tampa to Daytona and stop at Mulberry FL and eat at The Fish Place. Right in the center of town on Rt 60. One of the best roadfood places I’ve seen and perhaps the best burgers(and biggest) around. True roadfood.
BlueMax – I strongly suggest you go to the Brickyard Lounge for lunch..Not dinner. It’s on International Speedway..East of the racetrack on the same side of the street. Down about a mile?
Sundancer7..I never tried the Brickwyard’s onion rings..thanks for the heads up
Familydok – If you’ve already been to a Bonefish, why not try Billy’s Tap Room for fish or you can also try Betty’s AIA…Very good fried fish and shrimp. Betty’s is right opposite the Atlantic! No obstructions! It’s a beautiful ride up AIA. It’s very reasonable and they give you lots of food. Very casual….Go early enough in the evening to see the ocean. I should have included that one in my list. Try their firecracker shrimp or chicken as an appetizer.
Cajun Cabin on the Bayou in Pinellas Park (8101 Park Blvd) is a little known gem. If you like Cajun, this place will make you think you are in Louisiana. Get the red beans and rice as an appetizer to share–I’ve never had better.
Pay attention to the directiions on the site, it’s easy to drive right by.
Thanks everyone-sounds like I need to stay more than 5 or 6 days! I have eaten at the Columbia in St.Aug. and the one in Ybor City. Everything was very good there except the paella. It was a little greasy and didn’t compare to that in Spain or Mexico. I had taken my daughter-in-law, who is from Madrid, so I was sorry her paella wasn’t good. Their chicken dishes were excellent!
Ort, I visited Columbia in Orlando and I had a very good time and very good food. I think they have several around FL.

You might well want to cross Gandy Bridge and go to St. Petersburg. When there, be sure to make it to Ted Peters’ Smoked Fish at 1350 South Pasadena Avenue in South Pasadena… this is U. S. 19 Alternate.
If you’re in the mood to spend some money eating out in Tampa, try The Columbia Restaurant in Ybor City.
I haven’t been to Tampa in years, but I do remember the great coffee… either Cafe Naviera (made in Ybor City) or Cafe Caracolillo (roasted in West Tampa) is excellent.
Let us know what you find out there.
Nourishing My Florida Soul, Ort. Carlton in Athens, Georgia.

RibDog you got it exactly right about the Crab Shack accross the Gandy Bridge. I love that place. It looks live a dive but the food is really good.
The Brickyard? Never heard of it…..where is it? [}:)]
Or the grilled wings.
While La Teresita in Tampa is not bad, I prefer Arco Iris instead. And it is just down the street to it from La Teresita.
For seafood, I would suggest coming across the Gandy Bridge to the Crab Shack on Gandy in St. Pete.
For excellent Chinese (no I am not kidding), try China Yuan on North Armenia just above Waters Blvd. Very good.
If there are specific cuisines you would like recommendations on, post it and I am sure someone will respond if I do not.
